Loan approved $272m

The funding package..comprises a $198.6 million loan from the Bank, $23.52 million from the African Development Fund (ADF) and $50 million in co-financing with the Africa Growing Together Fund (AGTF).

The new airport will be built in the district of Msalato, 12 kilometres from the capital.

The project involves the construction of high-capacity airport infrastructure to meet the expected growth in air transport from the city's new role as the administrative capital of Tanzania.

Work will be carried out over four years and will include a passenger terminal, a runway, air navigation equipment.

The new facility is expected to handle at least 50,000 aircrafts and a million passengers per year, most of which will be international.

Terrible design for the price tag, Kigali is spending around the same amount for their International airport yet their air port looks world class.

The design of the airport itself looks like the hills of masalato, so they did well there. The problem for me is that once you get there (5 hours early) theres nothing to do. Its functional but not excellent. Kids will get bored, im sure msalato needs public swimming pools, gardens, malls, museum, garden, art gallery and etc. Why not build a bigger airport and fit these in to generate revenue?

Airports need hotels these days aswell.

Wrong brother, Rwanda is building theirs at 1.3 billion, that's almost 4 times more that use. I think this design is perfect. It looks practical and makes sense too.

If ATCL will consider making Msalato a hub for domestic routes, instead of flights connecting in Dar es Salaam, all should connect in Dodoma because Dodoma is more central and best positioned to serve all corners of the country.

I hope they have this plan.

The terminal is good, but Tanzania has 60 Million people and the population is getting richer (and flights are getting cheaper). I hope they have a provision for an extension once the capacity is reached.

And why the control tower is far from the tarmac???

AfDB, Tanzania sign 495 mln USD loan agreements for mega projects
13-03-2020

Development Bank (AfDB) and Tanzania on Friday signed loan agreements to the tune of 495.59 million U.S. dollars for financing three mega projects.

The agreements were signed in the commercial capital Dar es Salaam between the AfDB Country Manager for Tanzania, Alex Mubiru and the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance and Planning, Doto James.

A statement issued by the Ministry of Finance and Planning said out of the total loan, 271.63 million dollars will finance the construction of Msalato international airport in the capital Dodoma, 168.76 million dollars for the Bagamoyo-Horohoro-Lungalunga-Malindi road project, and 55.2 million dollars for the good governance and private sector development program.

The statement said the construction of Msalato international airport and upgrading of the Bagamoyo-Pangani road section to bitumen standard will help the government to bridge the infrastructure gap for accelerating socio-economic development, poverty reduction and boost tourism.

The implementation of the projects will enhance transport connectivity and unleash gains from economic integration for Tanzania with the neighboring countries and beyond, said the statement.

The statement said the government will also implement good governance and private sector development program to enhance economic competitiveness and private sector investment in the country.

"The program will address challenges identified in the Blue Print for Regulatory Reform to improve the business-enabling environment, particularly in tax, business registration and licensing reforms," said the statement.

The statement added that the program will also build on the ongoing efforts to improve budget credibility, public sector oversight, accountability, transparency, and institutional capacity to efficiently and effectively manage public resources.

"All of these three projects for which we are signing various loan agreements are aligned with Tanzania's Vision 2025, the document currently guiding the country's socio-economic development efforts up to the year 2025," said Alex Mubiru, the AfDB Country Manager for Tanzania.

"As you are aware, the objective of that Vision is to awaken, coordinate and direct the Tanzanian people's efforts, minds and their national resources towards those core sectors that will enable the country to attain its development goals and withstand the expected intensive economic competition ahead," he added.

Dar looks amazing on the exterior, on the interior it is very poorly designed with very little shops and decoration.

Dodoma port looks just lazy and unimaginative. Please if you're gonna spend 250+ million on an airport make it look pleasant.
