This thread is about public transport in Donostialdea area, metro map from urbanrail.net:

Donostia, or San Sebastián for Spanish, is resort town in Basque Autonomous Community of Spain and near French border with population of 186,409. The city's metro is actually former part of Euskotren Trena commuter rail network. Started operations in 2012, it has narrow gauge, 1 line (Line 2) and 20 stations, one of them is in France. Some metro stations are single track

Here are photos, taken from Wikipedia. Errekalde station:

News from Donostialdea - picture inside of Altuza station, which will be terminus of one of metro services (don't know which one, because metro project is still U/C):

And two new platforms at Loiola station were opened yesterday:

Scematic plans of exits:

And platform itself - Euskotren now uses them. The old platforms, as far as I understood, will be demolished:

Some prepatory works above proposed route of Metro's city centre section. This section, between Amara and Lugaritz stations, will make current reversing of Metro trains at Amara station unnececary. It wasn't said in article, but construction is planned to begin next year and will be completed in 3-4 years time. Tunnels will be excavated using mining method:

Map of proposed route - Amari station will have its underground level, with two stations will be new Centro-La Concha and Benta Berri:

^^ Under the beach, it seems. Although in high tide it will in fact be under the bay.
Indeed, I remember when I visited San Sebastian and had a few hours on the beach how you end up putting your towel 2 m from the water and 3 hours later have to walk 50 metres to get to the shore.

Anyway, cool engineering. Public transport in Donostia was lagging behind the excellent systems in Bilbao and Vitoria.

Gaintxurizketa station, taken by forumer pedro during the annual Behobia-San Sebastián run back in late October:

Unlike Bilbao, San Sebastián has both bus lines 35 and 41. IIRC ten years ago numbers only went up to 32...

Metro Donostia

I had been there in April. some construction sites. Loiola station the new viaduct is u.c. the provisorical station is of heawy construction including elevators! Herrera station looks to become 3 tracks outwards to Irun as open space is shown. Construction of the city tunnel will start soon. Intxaurrondo station is very deep - 2 separate entrances at booth sides - including entraces at booth sides of a highway trough. Old blue cars are very selden seen in service nearly all the new silver cars operating. good train frequence.

This is how the new service pattern of Euskotren in Donostia / San Sebastián area will look like from next Monday:

http://www.irekia.euskadi.eus/es/ne...cias-irun-hendaia-zumaia-ermua-eibar-elgoibar

The common section between Errekalde and Herrera will thus have a train every 7.5 minutes throughout the day. It's a pity trains will still need to reverse at Donostia Amara station until the new cross-city tunnel is built.

Some more pictures of new Altza station in Donostia / San Sebastián, cross-posting from the Basque sub-forum in the Spanish forum:
