First Look at Two New Mixed-Use Towers For Twelfth & Flower

Vancouver's Onni Group is going hard in the Downtown game, planning even more skyscrapers in addition to a 32-story tower already underway at 888 Olive. Now we have our first look at one of those proposed developments: two mixed-use towers slated for the parking lot next to an existing five-story office building (to remain untouched) at 1212 Flower Street, a South Park spot that's walking distance to both public transit (Pico Station) and LA Live.

According to a presentation that will be given to the Downtown LA Neighborhood Council tomorrow, the new residential buildings—one with 40 stories, the other with 31 stories—will have 730 condos (a white-hot commodity in Downtown these days), 7,873 square feet of retail (12 spaces), and 843 parking spaces (four floors underground parking, seven floors above-ground in a parking podium), which seems a little excessive considering the transit proximity.

Nice to see more housing planned, but when are these condos coming on-line? Not going to be much help for the time being I'm thinking.

If they are legit luxury condos, then parking demand is going to way exceed what they are planning. Party guests are not going to take buses in from the Marina, SGV, La Canada, Encino, PV, etc. Adequate valet services will also work.
Most stations are named for their surroundings (Pershing Square Station, Civic Center Station, etc...). Maybe Pico Station will change to Parking Podium Station.

What a great location for this height. I hope these get built.
looks like fencing has gone up and prelim work to tear down the warehouses started today!

Proposal was almost 3 years ago. Demo is about done now. Maybe done in 2 more years?
Three years ago, these seemed great for so far south. Now I wish they had a little more style to them.
Should call the neighborhood New Portland or PortlandTown.
...Little Portland is already taken (by Portland).

"Little" Portland wouldn't make sense anyway. This would be the third largest building anywhere in Portland and others in South Park are going much taller than anything there.

Maybe Portland should be "Little South Park"?

Maybe, but it might be preferable to just have more diverse architecture in the area.
