Hi. I just got back from Miami tonight and decided to upload some of the pics I took of downtown. All of the photos were taken May 5, 2007. Hope you like 'em.

How many towers are currently under construction in downtown Miami?
MIAMI- WOW
A LOT I MEAN A LOT has changed since i was there last november.
Gotta love those colors on the condos. Ougyta to be more pastel shades though.

Too bad only a small part of Miami looks like that thought, at least its Manhattinizing
The city is advancing to construct at large scale , much appreciated and much like in Dubai !
Very nice. Would be great to add a couple of supertalls too....
Remember: According to Tom Tancredo this is a "Third World City".

Beautiful photos! I wish I'd had more of an opportunity to see Miami before going on cruises in the Caribbean.
Miami looks so beautifull and alot of new towers coming i see. I have to visit miami!
Miami going off!!!

I heard there's some pretty unpleasant areas around Miami that are best worth avoiding. not just a few mean streets, but expansive areas. Maybe that's what they mean by third world?

Nice pics...

Ha! I'm the accountant in charge of the building on the left, the one with the blue glass. Hurricane Wilma hit two years ago and basically blew ALL the construction material off a building near it right through our building. What a mess, all the glass was blown out, whole inside trashed. Still paying bills on that cleanup...
Wow, lots of construction. I wonder if they're going to be able to sell all of those new condo's with the slow-down in the real estate market...
What a boom! Miami is so hot! :)

Probably won't be long until Miami has its windows blown out again...

Thanks for pics, good to see it densifying.
Nice pics, but there are far too many condos going up and that concerns me a little considering that the city has given little thought to its transport infrastructure. It would be nice to see some variety in Miami's skyline, not just dozens of condos. With a couple more office towers and maybe a super-tall, Miami would have an amazing skyline.

A city for the rich, at its best.

Indeed, most of Miami doesn't look like that. It's a tough place to live for many people and expensive too.
Thanks everybody for your comments. I hope this doesn’t create too much turmoil, and I mean no offense but I feel the need to defend my hometown.

Miami isn’t the “third-world” city that many people seem to portray it as. It is one of the most luxurious and beautiful locations in the country. It has some bad neighborhoods (namely Allapatah, Opa Locka and Liberty City) but these neighborhoods aren't any worse than the slums of other large cities. The rest of Miami is very safe and pleasant. Perhaps next time I go to Miami I will take some pics of Cocoa Plum, Pinecrest, Coconut Grove, Coral Gables and some parts of East Kendall and you'll be blown away by the palaces that people call home down there. I think that the characterization of Miami as “third-world” is largely due to many people’s lowly opinions of Hispanics and Hollywood dramatizations of the South American drug industry. Miami’s crime stats are also very deceiving since the City of Miami includes some of the metro area’s most dangerous neighborhoods and none of its safe suburbs. Instead of taking the "third world" characterization of Miami as a fact, try coming to Miami and experiencing it yourself and I guarantee you will change your mind.

Furthermore, Miami's public transportation system is certainly an issue (I wouldn't have visited downtown that day if traffic wasn't so bad going to the Air and Sea show in Ft. Lauderdale) but to say that not much thought has been given to transportation is unfair. I used the Miami metro-mover free of charge to get around downtown the day I took these photos and if you look a little harder, you'll see that many of these photos, including the first, were taken from the station platforms themselves. All of the people living in these condos will at least be able to get around downtown using the metro-mover and metrorail. Also, Miami’s transportation system is undergoing one of the biggest improvement projects since the Big Dig. Here’s a brief list of the major projects that have already been approved.

Miami Intermodal Center (MIC)
  • $1.349 billion
  • Completion expected in Q3 2011
  • Will connect Miami International Airport, Metrorail and Tri-Rail
Metrorail extension (heavy rail)
Three new lines are currently being developed:
  • Airport Connection – 2.4 miles to be completed in July 2010
  • North Corridor – 9.5 miles to be completed in 2014
  • East-West Corridor – 10.6 miles to be completed in 2016
MIA Airport Expansion
  • $6 billion worth of capital improvements
  • Completion expected in 2010
Downtown Streetcar (light rail)
  • $200 million
  • Will connect Downtown and Midtown
  • Completion expected in December 2011
Port of Miami Tunnel Project
  • $1 billion +
  • Construction contracts awarded
  • Completion expected in January 2011
Tri-Rail Extension (heavy rail)
  • Connects Miami, Ft. Lauderdale and West Palm Beach
  • Will be extended to Jupiter and connected to the MIC

Finally, regarding SpaceMonkey's post on office towers:

There are currently three office buildings that just started construction in downtown with final heights of 540, 617, and 640 feet. As for the supertall, we can only hope…

Boom Boom Boom..goes Miami!

Miami is a fascinating city and very beautiful. Love all the little islands and Biscayne area. Ignore the bad comments as those usually come from people that would like to live that lifestyle. I know I could not afford it.
As always I agree with paul's comments, and paul please post these in the miami forum when you have a chance...as we say in the miami forum---go cranes!!
