DUBAI: Towers on SZR, the famous highway.

There will be other developments off the main road but there still is a lot going on next to the SZR highway. In this thread I’ve shown all the tower that are under construction now, it’s strange the way some start without any knowledge whatsoever beforehand. Someone just sees a signboard pop up and a crane get installed so he takes a pic and there you have it, another tower :D
As you can see some of these are great while some are not so good. If you want some more info/pics/background info ask and I'll post it.

Really nice.
Good job. Next we'll need one for the marina and JLT(not every tower of course).
Nice post - good effort!

There's so much crap going up in Dubai - I worry about how it's all going to look in 10 or 20 years. So many of those buildings are either completely forgettable, or worse.

you honestly believe that?

i wonder what you think of your own city.
You have way too many towers... can Milwaukee have one? Thanks.

Many of these towers would be landmarks in the average city in Texas. Any complaints about unoriginality, that person must not have seen most buildings out there.
Most of these are good actually. Nuaimi tower's pretty tacky with all the gold and stuff (although I like it in that picture), also Liberty tower looks pretty crap. Aswell there's that other gold tower but that's it pretty much. Bright Start tower (crap name), park place and the rose rotana look great I think

Dubai's property is really amazingly growing fast.
Great compilation. most of the towers look good. Some are very good and only a few look less than average. Enough to be very proud of now and in the near future.
Rose rotana suite is really awesome, just a small piece of land they have, this building can be built.

I'm aware that there are some truly wonderful buildings in Dubai. I was simply pointing out that whilst Dubai is truly experiencing an astounding construction boom, with many, many towers stretching over 250m high, unfortunately, I do not feel that many of these towers are of a high quality.

When you're building a city from pretty much nothing, as in Dubai, you have an opportunity to do things right, to be innovative. How much innovation do you see in these towers?

I also worry about the environmental impact these buildings will have. How many of these buildings will be fully air conditioned energy-easting monsters? Which of these buildings has a low-energy cooling and ventilation system in place? Are the buildings and consturction methods sustainable?

Also, looking down SZR, many of the buildings are simple boxes only differentiated by their different cladding colours. Uninspiring.

Many of these towers would be landmarks in the average city in Texas.
With all due respect, what's your point? We're not talking an average Texas city - we're talking about Dubai, which has aspirations to become a great world city. That doesn't come about through height alone. You could take any of those towers and put them in any average city and they'd be landmarks. That doesn't mean they're any good.

^^ All new buildings will use district cooling, which reduce A/C usage up to 40%. All of them also use reflective and specially coated glass to reduce the amount of heat and UV radiation penetrating inside.

Do your home work before talking the expert please.
i really get impress with all the dubai tower but one thing i really ponding that they are siesmic proof cause they are so near to each other that in quake condition one will ocsillate and if one them (God forbids) get distructed will fall on other and most of them are of cemented structure, will all that structures have capability oscillate in such condition? ........

^^ That's actually a scary thought because the recent earthquake in Iran was also felt in the UAE. I think there are regulations for this though, SA Boy would know about this stuff. I presume the shiny facades on a lot will not only reflect light but also UV and Infra Red (ie, heat) radiation so this should help.

:applause: nice one....
Chief makes some good points though. There are a good few projects that are very average going up and why settle for something mediocre when you can build the best.

Anyway, here's another pic of the rose rotana:
