That is not very foolproof.. there can be multiple drivers for a vehicle. also cases where phone goes off etc. This is regardless the fact that driver has no incentive to turn on GPS tracking - quite opposite.

I am not very close to the technology that works behind...
But there is an app the school bus operators use and users can track exact location of bus , route , time to destination etc..

May be they also place a permanent SIM card on the bus itself ..techies know this best !

IIM-K ties up with Stanford University

Impetus to executive education programme

The Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode (IIM-K), on Monday announced collaboration with Stanford University as part of its premier executive education programme, Executive Post Graduate Programme (EPGP).

IIM-K is the first IIM to collaborate with an Ivy League University in an Executive Education Programme. Stanford University’s Masterclass Webinar Series in Design Thinking and Innovation provides a cohesive educational experience tailored to the goals of IIM-K, a new release said.

The IIM-K pioneered the Interactive Learning Programme for working executives in the entire Asia Pacific way back in 2001. Having started with 300 contact hours in 2001-02, the two-year EPGP is today the most rigorous and the most sought-after executive programme in management in the country with 738 contact hours. The EPGP is accredited by the AMBA (Association of MBAs) since 2011.

Five new schools of learning for MGU

School of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics among approved projects

The government has given in-principle approval to start five new schools of learning in traditional and emerging areas at Mahatma Gandhi University by 2019. It include School of Economics, School of Hindi, School of Nanoscience and Technology, School of Energy Materials, and School of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics.

The government’s no-objection certificate is expected by the start of the academic year 2019-20, people close to the development told The Hindu .

The five new schools were part of the 10 proposed by the varsity earlier. Besides the five that have received the government nod, the other new centres recommended included School of Geology, School of Commerce, School of Mathematical Science, School of Theatre and Writing, and School of Psychology.

The varsity, which was established in 1983, has only 18 schools of learning. A document highlighting the academic and infrastructure gains earned by the varsity showed that the number of departments was low compared to other varsities. This had affected research and academic initiatives. The rolling out of new schools is expected to boost the image of the varsity at national and international levels.

The proposed schools have been designed in tune with the popularity among aspirants.

The varsity wanted to tap on the growing opportunities, both job and researchwise, being offered by niche areas like Nanoscience and Technology, Energy Materials and Artificial Intelligence and Robotics. It had taken into account studies and assessments that indicated the increasing demand for trained professionals, especially in areas like Nano science, Energy Materials, Artificial Intelligence and Robotics.

Great news. However, Stanford is not considered as an IVY League university, even though it is ranked above most of the so called IVy leagues

KAU forging global links

Students from foreign universities visit the university

The Kerala Agricultural University (KAU) is taking efforts to strengthen study exchange with international universities of global repute. “Exposure to agricultural systems in other counties would help the students from different parts of the world to comprehend the challenges and opportunities of different systems so that they can mould pragmatic models for agricultural development in their home territories,” said the Vice-Chancellor Dr. R. Chandra Babu here on Wednesday.

He was addressing the students and faculty of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS), Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, USA, who are on a four-day visit to Kerala including KAU campus in Thrissur, as a part of the International Agriculture and Rural Development (IARD) course programme - 2019 of Cornell University, USA. IARD course was an excellent opportunity for enterprising minds for cross country learning of agriculture and rural development, the VC said.

Team

The team consisting of foreign and Indian students along with Cornell and Indian faculty was in Kerala as part of their field trip, which forms the final module of IARD curriculum. The course, which provides opportunity for experiential learning for the selected students in US and India, helps to understand the fundamental processes and practices to address food and nutritional security and to design models for sustainable crop production and productivity enhancement through value addition and rural community empowerment. After the third and final module of the course, the students would present a synopsis of the final theme of their project.

Farm segments

The trip includes visit to rural farm segments, industry houses and interaction with policy administrators. The KAU is helping to organise the schedule in Kerala, which includes visit to various research facilities in the KAU, Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, and SHGs functioning in the agricultural sector. The team, split in to three thematic groups namely agricultural systems, rural infrastructure, and value addition based on the interest of the students, visited the hitech vegetable nursery and farm mechanisation unit under the Agricultural Research Station, Mannuthy, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, cocoa research unit, cashew research station, tissue culture facility, medicinal and aromatic plants nursery, and Central nursery on the first day, besides interacting with station heads and senior faculty members.

On the second day, they visited model polyhouse, biological control unit and micro biology unit, post harvest facility at Vellanikkara, and the dairy plant and meat technology unit of the veterinary university. In the next two days, the team will visit various SHGs and NGOs including Kudumbasree units involved in activities connected with agricultural and allied sectors.
