Just Imagine if Expresshighway project had taken off.. We ll repent if we keep on crtizing and objecting anything and everything...
So many ifs and buts thats been the story of KERALA when a highly skilled workforce is working abroad and lowly skilled north Indian labourers are working in Kerala. I am saying all this for the next generation with the desire that my children should live and work in Kerala , which I couldnt.

Directly HSR will not eradicate the poverty. HSR is for transporation and not for sale of peanuts..
So at grade railway is for selling peanuts? Think from a common man's side who are not earning not like you or me.
But the project implementation will provide employment opportunities to masses. After project implementation, they will have support/maintenance work for railway line, railway stations etc.
This is not particular for HSR alone, but common to all railway projects.
Apart from the above railway related works, definitly the soroundings of HSR railway stations can have shopping malls and other related shops. This will give employment options to masses.
Do you think, people will opt HSR for shopping?
So if a person is interested to work and make money, HSR will be a good option. But a person is interested in selling only peanut, we cannot do anything.
Selling peanuts is not a naive job as you think. For them it is their bread. If a person is really interested to work and make money within the state, oh! where we were be now?:)
Those peanut sellers who can walk and talk, should be able to get good work if they wish to work. Otherwise no option.
Still such people exists in our society.
Anyway I feel like these kind of projects will boom the economy and will improve the life of people if they can work hard. It is better than Gulf.
Order ! Order !

I feel, this higher literacy and awareness is a curse for Kerala too.... Instead of making people more wiser, it made more hypocrites....
Kochi, with just 2 lakh revenue in 1890s, made a railway line worth Rs 44 Lakh, even selling all wealth of its presiding deity- Poornathresya and royal crowns of Kochi. Even the catchword PPP of todays was used by Govt that time, thro' sale of Government Papers and private investments....

And in 1940s, the revenue of Kochi Kingdom, rose to near 40 Lakhs per annum, all fueled by one single railway line, which British engineers and govt of India labelled as unfeasible and joke.....

In 1920s, a mere farmland was choosen by HH Lady Rama Varma Neyathar Amma, the Consort Queen of Kochi and she decided to construct a 4 lane road there... Today its MG Road, one of State's biggest commercial taxes earning area.... If these kind of lame environmental excuses and hypocrisy existed that time, nothing would have been today....
Well said MI

We are not shutting down Railways and forcing all to use HSR.... Bullocks co-existed when Railway lines commenced. Over a period of time, Bullock carts got extinct in Kerala....

Are you still saying, Bullock carts needed for current Kerala economy?

People's income level will not be stagrant to one particular level forever... What was a luxury in 80s, will not be same today. Same Fridge, was considered a luxury item eariler. Today is a common basic thing... Could in 1970s, we ban sale of fridge, saying its not meant for common people?

But it created more poverty, as atgrade railway line sharply depreciate land values near to railway line... Thats why we have slums near railway lines..
More poverty due to railways?
So land near HSR will appreciate the land value

So the income level of the people of Kerala will be high once projects like HSR comes and buses (bullock cart of future era, as per your vision (?)) will get extinct from Kerala?

Definitely.... Land values sharply depreciate when near to at-grade railway line... Thats why you have slum or poor residences near to railway line.

Whereas elevated/underground Railway systems, boosts realty and make higher returns. This is common around the world....

Definitely.....Once upon a time, many people couldn't afford to travel in railways and those who could travel in 3rd class, as second and first class were beyond any Indian's level, barring Tatas or Princes....

Is that same today? Once income rises, many of systems of today, will be extinct tommorrow and current expensive ones will become common mans vehicles....

@All,

How many of you personally attending the EK?

Isn't it for govt babus and big corporates only? We public can't even approach the place I guess.
No. Some of our fellow SSC forumers are attending EK :).Thats why I enquired; because so much enthusiasm saw here about EK.
How to implement such rules? Don't the massage parlours/ resorts (Not all) are associated with flesh trade/child porn even though there are rules and regulations to run a massage parlour/resorts? :)
Ajith, I would say the biggest failure of the government is in implementing the rules and regulations for which a corrupt and inefficient beaurocracy is the reason. Government should be able to shake up the entire beaurocracy and make it an efficient workforce which i feel is the biggest challenge infront of the government.

Who opposing HSR? Opposing the claim as it is the need of the hour, where we don't have even the basic transportation/infrastructure facilities. Let those comes first if someone cares for !
Lets tackle all them all and thats what emerging Kerala is for

Agree :)

in the recent tender for project consultancy, AECOM too bidded, and they came second last...so wasnt it better that aecom was not selected..
and i'll take ur advice and read 'deshabhimani' now on for a clearer perspective of things...
AECOM is a much reputed consultancy. If AECOM was selected in 2011 we would have seen much progress in the project by now. Much better than going rounds in circles like now. The project cost increases each day.

It is still suspicious how STUP was selected when mere googling about it gives stories of blacklisting by many govt organisations. The things which followed are more suspicious. Manorama which usually sits silent in all scams suddenly started giving series of stories against KIAL and its MD.

Then Kochi based MIR group went to court. As the consultancy agreement was already signed and the matter is sub judice any sane person would wait for court verdict. Instead just one day before the hearing the consultancy agreement was cancelled. Then MD resigned. Now as expected STUP went to court. Who is responsible for all this bullshit? :bash:

പിന്നെ നിങ്ങള്* എന്ത് വേണേലും വായിച്ചോ. ദേശാഭിമാനിയോ ഫയറോ ഏതും വായിക്കാം. All newspapers are available online. മനോരമ മാത്രം വായിച്ചിട്ട് അയ്യോ ഞാനൊന്നും അറിഞ്ഞില്ലല്ലോ എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞിട്ട് കാര്യമില്ല. Once you start following any other media you will realize how crappy is Manorama.
