The TGV (French: Train à Grande Vitesse, high-speed train) is France's high-speed rail service, operated by SNCF Voyages, the long-distance rail branch of SNCF, the national rail operator.

It was developed during the 1970s by GEC-Alsthom (now Alstom) and SNCF. Originally designed to be powered by gas turbines, the prototypes evolved into electric trains with the petrol crisis of 1973. Following the inaugural service between Paris and Lyon in 1981 on the LGV Sud-Est (LGV (French: Ligne à Grande Vitesse, high-speed line)), the network, centred on Paris, has expanded to connect many cities across France and in adjacent countries on both high-speed and conventional lines.

A TGV test train set the record for the fastest wheeled train, reaching 574.8 km/h (357.2 mph) on 3 April 2007. In mid-2011, scheduled TGV trains operated at the highest speeds in conventional train service in the world, regularly reaching 320 km/h (200 mph) on the LGV Est and the LGV Méditerranée.

According to Railway Gazette in 2007, a TGV was the fastest scheduled rail journey with a start-to-stop average speed of 279.4 km/h (173.6 mph) between Champagne-Ardenne TGV and Lorraine TGV, until July 2013, when it was surpassed by the Chinese Harmony express.

AGV je daljni razvoj tehnologije od TGV-a. Presudna novost je u tome, što su motori raspoređeni uzduž svih vagona, a ne postoje više posebne pogonske glave na krajevima vlaka. Time se dobiva dodatni prostor za putnike. Najveća predviđena brzina je 360 km/h.

AGV is a further development of the technology of the TGV. The crucial novelty is that, as motors distributed along all the coaches, and there are no more special drive heads on the ends of the train. This gives more space for passengers. The highest predicted speed is 360 km / h.





Modularity


The AGV: modularity and flexibility for customers

The AGV has been designed according to a simple principle: to adapt to the specific requirements of each operator and each line on which it will run. Its architecture is the key to this modularity which, above all, means that it can be configured to carry from 250 to 650 passengers.

The AGV’s articulated architecture with distributed drive system allows operators to change the length of their AGV trains easily while maintaining their technical characteristics. According to the operators’ preference, the AGV can be configured in trains of 7, 8, 11 or 14 carriages and, depending on the configuration chosen, its capacity ranges from 250 to 650 passengers.

Greater flexibility for operators

The AGV’s modularity is synonymous with flexibility. Operators will find it easier to fine-tune the circulation plans of their very high speed trains. For example, trains departing from several stations, and running on normal railway lines, might join up to travel together at very high speed, before separating and continuing their respective journeys towards different destinations.
This could be particularly useful with regard to how train travel varies throughout the year (school holidays, long weekends, etc). The AGV opens up new possibilities for rail by introducing the concept of fleets of trains and railway ‘hubs’ – just like travelling by air. This is nothing short of revolutionary for the railway transport sector and its operators.

ICE high-speed train

The InterCity Express (ICE) is the high-speed train operated by Deutsche Bahn - the German railway company. These trains operate across Germany connecting cities such as Hamburg, Cologne, Frankfurt, Berlin and Munich to name just a few. With international connections in Switzerland, Austria and the Netherlands and traveling at speeds of up to 300km/h the modern ICE trains are one of the fastest ways to travel by train in Germany and its neighboring countries.

If a speedy journey is important to you then the ICE Sprinter, the latest generation of ICE trains, is the best option. The ICE Sprinter runs every morning and evening during rush hour and guarantees a fast connection with direct routes between many German cities. ZEFIRO 250 – China

One of the world’s fastest sleeper trains, the ZEFIRO 250 combines comfortable long-distance travel, robust reliability and environmentally friendly clean speed.

With delivery starting in 2009, our first variant of the ZEFIRO concept was a series of 20 EMU sleeper trains manufactured by our joint venture Sifang Power (Qingdao) Transportation (BSP). These trains are setting a new standard in interior design and equipment for high speed rail in China. World speed record for diesel locomotive





TEP80 is a Soviet diesel locomotive produced in 1988-1989. Only two locomotives of this model were built. The second of which TEP80-0002 claims to hold the world speed record for a diesel railed vehicle having reached 271 km/h on 5 October 1993 however this has was not confirmed by independent witnesses (The current official diesel speed record is held by British Rail Class 43 (HST)). The record breaking locomotive is now situated in the Museum of Railway Machinery, former Varshavsky Rail Terminal, Saint Petersburg.

TE10 (Russian: ТЭ10) is a Russian diesel-electric locomotive. The name of this locomotive (ТЭ10) is from тепловоз с электрической передачей, тип 10, which translate to "diesel-electric locomotive type 10."

In 1957–1961, the Kharkov plant "Electrotyazhmash" and Malyshev Factory designed a new single-section locomotive with 50% more power than sections of the TE3, and only a slightly greater mass. The result was the TEP10 and TEP10L designs. After 1961, work on the freight version of the design was assigned to the Luganski works. These designs received the suffix "L" to the name to signify the transfer.

The first locomotive of the new design, designated TE10-001 (Kharkov), was released in November 1958.

Only small numbers of the TEP variant of the design were produced before the design became a dedicated freight locomotive, while a passenger version was not further developed.

Initial prototypes used the 12 Cylinder 9D100 opposed piston 2 stroke diesel engine to achieve the required power levels.

This was based on the Kharkov 10 Cylinder 2D100 2 stroke diesel unit. However problems were encountered and another variant of the 2D100 was used, the 10D100, another 10 Cylinder 2 stroke diesel design. All derivatives of the TE10 locomotive built as new used this engine.[1]

One of the innovations in the Soviet locomotive factories became the principle of whole body supporting structure which had previously been used only by the Czechoslovakian CHS1 electric locomotives and the Riga ER1 electric train. The body of the locomotive was based on two three-axle trucks like the TE3 predecessor.

With much less weight than the two-section locomotive TE3, the TE10 diesel locomotive could successfully replace the locomotives that worked a single thrust.

This single unit design formed the basis for a family of locomotives that was built for over 30 years and ranged from single unit passenger locomotives TEP10 through 2 and 3 unit Freight Locomotives 2TE10 3TE10 to 4 unit very heavy freight 4TE10U engines

U posljednje vrijeme se često kod nas spominje RCA ÖBB, pa sam pronašao jedan zanimljiv članak o RCA, uz kratki uvod o najosnovnijim podatcima u tvrtci.

TKO JE ZAPRAVO RCA?













Rail Cargo Austria je austrijska željeznička tvrtka specijalizirana za teretni prijevoz sa središtem u Beču. Ona je jedna od članice OBB grupe, a proizašla je iz OBB-ovog carga. Osim željezničkog prijevoza prisutni su i u cestovnom, zračnom te vodenom prijevozu.
2008. RCA preuzeli su MAV Cargo (danas Rail Cargo Hungaria) i njihovo cjelokupno poslovanje. Danas RCA zapošljava oko 11 000 ljudi i preveze oko 142 milijuna tona tereta godišnje. Prisutni su u većini zemalja središnje, jugoistočne i istočne Europe.
Među tvrtkama u vlasništvu RCA nalaze se Rail Cargo Hungaria, Express-Interfracht Internationale Spedition GmbH, OBB-Produktion GmbH, OBB-Technische Services GmbH, Okombi GmbH i drugi.
RCA je prisutan u poslovnim sektorima poput intermodalnog prijevoza, kontejnerskog prijevoza, prijevoza kompletnih vagona i vlakova, prijevoz specijalnih tereta, te prijevoz komandnih pošiljaka.
U flotu lokomotiva RCA uključene su serije Taurusa 1016, 1116 (dvosistemske) i 1216 (trosistemske), 1144, 2016 (Hercules), 2043, te različite dizel i električne manevarske lokomotive.

Ono što podružnicu RCA Slovenija čini posebnom jest to da ona sa svojih 39 zaposlenika drži 11% ukupnog željezničkog teretnog prijevoza u Sloveniji, a da sa svojim daljnjim usavršavanjem i modernizacijom ta brojka svakodnevno raste.

Those Russian diesel locos are freaking monsters.
Russian locomotives are monsters, but that's because of their work, and the terrain where they drive their cargo. In any case, they are interesting because of their strength, and are always interesting to people who like railways.

Railjet


Railjet je vlak velikih brzina koji prometuje u okviru Austrijskih željeznica ili ÖBB-a. Brzina vlaka je do 230 km/h. Railjet je koncipiran kao push-pull vlak. To znači, kako na jednom kraju ima konvencionalnu električnu lokomotivu, a na drugom je samo nepogonjeni vagon upravljačnica, koji omogućuje upravljanje pri vožnji u drugom smjeru. Vlak se sastoji od lokomotive i sedam vagona. Pri povećanju kapaciteta biti će moguće spojiti dvije garniture s dvije lokomotive.

Svaki vlak ima 408 sjedećih mjesta. Postoji tri kategorije: Premium Class, Business Class i Economy Class. Za putnike invalide su planirane slijedeće olakšice: dizala na vozilima, tri mjesta za ljude u kolicima, WC bez barijera, utičnica za baterije za kolica, mjesto za psa vodiča slijepih osoba, Servisni poziv i prilagođene sustavi za poziv u nuždi. U dvjema gornjim klasama se nudi "Am-Platz-Service", tj. direktno posluživanje na mjestu sjedenja angeboten,utičnice se podrazumijevaju kao i široki, tlakootporni prijelazi i sjedala napravljena po najnovijim ergonomskim spoznajama.

A longer (4 hours) movie: From Bergen to Oslo!
Friday November 27th,2009, over 1,2 million Norwegians watched parts of "Bergensbanen" on NRK2. The longest documentary ever? At least the longest we have made, almost 7 1/2 hours, showing every minute of the scenic train ride between Bergen on the Norwegian west coast, crossing the mountains to the capital of Oslo.

Don't laugh. I used to do this as well, when I came home drunk. Turn on the telly and watch a tramway cab ride on one of Vienna's tram lines. Too bad I can't receive that progamm anymore with my new provider. :D
