Transmission line to be constructed
LAMJUNG: A 14-km long transmission line is to be constructed by the Liberty Energy Hydropower Company Pvt. Ltd for the Upper Dordi Hydel Project of 25 mw to be constructed in Dordi Khola (river) of Lamjung, from Kirtipur of Dhodeni VDC of Lamjung to mid-Marsyangdi Hydel Project.

The company will construct it at a cost of Rs. 200 million and it is going to sign the agreement with Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) very soon.

IPB approves four projects worth Rs 31b
KATHMANDU, MAY 17 -

The Industrial Promotion Board ( IPB ) has approved four projects that have collectively pledged Rs 31 billion investment.

The projects that were approved on Monday include capacity upgradation of Bottlers Nepal Tarai Limited and three hydropower projects — Kabeli, Balefi and Likhu.

Construction works of the Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project

Almost half of the construction works of the Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project has completed. .

According to the Project Officials, the construction work of the 456 MW project will complete by mid April 2015 as the works are going on smoothly in a full swing.

The Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project the first project developed with only domestic investment is one of the national pride projects.

With the support of the locals and the leaders of the political parties of Dolkha district, the construction works is going on in a high pace and if all goes well, the project will be brought into operation within the targeted deadline of 2015.

East region faces shortage of petroleum products

Biratnagar, May 23: The eastern region of the country has faced shortage of petroleum products following the strike of workers in the petrol pumps in the east.
The workers in the petrol pumps have launched the strike and disrupted the distribution of petroleum products demanding that their salary should be increased, they should be provided with the appointment letters, and employees' provident fund, among others.
Meanwhile, the reserve amount of fuels was finished in the petrol pumps as the workers disrupted the transport of it from the Nepal Oil Corporation, Eastern Depot.
The petroleum products' could not be swiftly supplied as the workers and the petroleum entrepreneurs' talks could not be conclusive though frequent talks during a week's time were held among the concerned parties.

NEA plans to launch solar power project

KATHMANDU, JUN 20 -

The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has planned to diversify from hydroelectricity into solar power. In the next fiscal year, it will launch a solar power project with a soft loan from the World Bank (WB).

The project, called Renewal Energy and Energy Efficiency Project (REEEP), has a capacity of 20 MW. It will be implemented at five places: Sunkoshi powerhouse (Sindhupalchok), Panauti powerhouse (Panauti), Trishuli powerhouse (Trishuli), Pharping powerhouse (Pharpi-ng) and NEA training centre at Kharipati.

Govt, Italian firm sign contract for Melamchi tunnel work

KATHMANDU, JUL 16 -

The government on Monday signed a contract agreement with Italy’s CMC Cooperativa Muratori e Cementisti di Ravenna for developing diversion tunnel and headworks of the Melamchi Drinking Water Project (MDWP).

Krishna Prasad Acharya, executive director of Melamchi Water Supply Development Board (MWSDB), and Salvatore Casciarro, special representative of the Italian firm, signed the agreement, under which the contractor has to complete the construction within 36 months of the contract signing. As per the new schedule, the Melamchi Project is expected to complete by June-July 2016, MWSDB said......

Avishek Malla is no stranger to bringing solar-powered light to communities in need. As the director of engineering for SunFarmer, a nonprofit that provides solar power and batteries to remote hospitals and schools in developing countries, illuminating spaces to meet basic human needs is in his job description.

One of Malla’s most recent tasks was a different kind of challenge. In the aftermath of the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that leveled much of Nepal’s capital city of Kathmandu, Malla was out on the street fixing a solar streetlight to give his neighborhood some light after two days without power.
