airliners.net thread says OHKA has applied to HK authorities for the following

quotable quote>>

Sydney/Melbourne?
Apparently they have scheduled OHK600/601 VHHH/HKG-YSSY/SYD-YMML/MEL-YSSY/SYD-VHHH/HKG from August 21. These flights will run daily departing Hong Kong 1855L, arriving back into Hong Kong at 2300L. They will connect on to the EGKK/LGW flights. This marks their entrance to the Kangaroo route.

Note the similar timings to the Virgin flights.

No information/promo in the wind yet regarding these flights.

would like to see it happen as id like to get to london for around A$1300?
guess we will see?

That would be a pretty picture parked at Tulla, or at Mascot for that matter.

I would have thought a triangular routing would make more sense than going SYD-MEL-SYD. Still interesting news though.

I like the idea of Australia being more integrated with Asia. It allows for more investment in our country and as Asian economies rise, we can be right along for the ride.

There has been quite a lot of interest from Asian and Middle Eastern airlines to fly to Australia. I an really looking forward to it.

I think they are also getting A330s which they will fly to Australia.

I do admire their courage to enter the route. That means we will have 5x daily flights to HKG by the end of the year as CX is also increasing to 3x daily.

I can however not see them flying full planes in and out of MEL/SYD though. The route is becoming extremely competitive and I don't know if the route can support another carrier for the time being. I think they have rushed into Australia a bit.

Does anyone think they will bring more passengers/business people/tourists to Australia or just take people from CX and QF?

How is having just the oneworld alliance flying the routes extremely competitive? duhhh.

You ask the same question over and over again and no-one ever answers it quite the way you want it answered.

WHAT DO YOU THINK YOUR ANSWER IS GOING TO BE?

Qatar is putting they're MEL launch on hold so it may give Oasis some time to establish itself without the extra competition.

A friend of mine recently returned from Singapore and flew Emirates and said the flight was empty both ways.

JQ is also doing badly on the MEL-BKK flight so I guess we'll just have to wait and see if they are successful!
