Work on construction o a Limited Use subway at Kollukattumedu along Karu Road near East RTO.

Work has began to construct a Limited Use Subway (LUS) near the Office of the Regional Transport Officer (East) at Kollukattu Medu here. It is expected to be completed in two months.

The Erode – Karur railway line, located near River Cauvery, has many manned and unmanned level crossings. As part of eliminating the level crossings in the Salem Railway Division, the railways had proposed to construct LUS at a few places in the district. One such work at Vendipalayam is nearing completion .

The manned level crossing near the RTO office and located along Karur Bypass Road is used by farmers who come to their agriculture land located on the other side of the track.

The railways had proposed to convert it as an LUS and the work began a few days ago. Currently, the earth beneath the railway track is removed after which construction of walls and placing of pre-cast concrete boxes will be done.

Officials said that train services would not be disrupted during the progress of work and added that the work would be completed as per schedule. They said the level crossing was closed and vehicle movement would resume after the subway work was completed.

Temporary road needed at Vendipalayam LC along Old Karur Road

With construction of Limited Use Subway (LUS) under way at Vendipalayam and the road closed for traffic, people in the area wanted temporary arrangements in place so that two-wheelers and pedestrians can cross the railway track.

As part of eliminating unmanned level crossings in the Salem Railway Division, a subway is being constructed at a cost of ₹ 1.5 crore at the Chennai – Erode Section at Vendipalayam. The existing road was closed and the earth beneath the tracks was removed and pre-cast concrete boxes were placed. Executed by the Construction Organisation of the Southern Railway, the work is expected to take another one month for completion.

But people in the area said that the level crossing was closed in October and work began for constructing the subway. In the absence of alternative road, they were forced to take additional five km. to reach the other side. “Even pedestrians cannot cross the track to board buses”, they said. They said that the railway administration, without any prior information, has undertaken the work and even after 50 days, work is yet to be completed. “During rainy season, water fills up the railway underpass in the area and hundreds of families were trapped”, said Kandhan of the area. They said that due to water stagnation in the current work area, work is delayed.

To ensure that people in the area cross the tracks safely, the railways should take steps by making arrangements either by laying road or making provisions for crossing the tracks till work is completed, they added.

Public invited to submit designs for roundabout at GH junction

Designs to be submitted by November 29
The district police have asked the public to submit designs for the new roundabout that is to be constructed under the flyover at the GH Junction.

GH junction is one of the important spots in the city as Five Roads, Perundurai Road, Nasiyanur Road, Mettur Road, E.V.N. Road and Meenatchi Sundaranar Road (earlier Brough Road) meet here. A flyover connecting Perundurai Road, Meenatchi Sundaranar Road and E.V.R. Road was constructed to ease traffic congestion at the junction. But traffic management at the junction became difficult and the police recently placed concrete slabs around two pillars to ensure vehicles moved without hindrance. Since a permanent roundabout is the only solution, the district police recommended the Corporation and the district administration to construct one at the junction.

Superintendent of Police S. Sakthi Ganesan said that both the Corporation and the district administration have decided to construct a new roundabout at the junction. Public can submit the designs to the Office of the District Police in person or through post by November 29
I think a statue of Handloom would be rightly depicting the base for Erode's growth

Erode is HQ of erode district... So roundana should show diverse nature of erode including handlooms, farming(turmeric), natural features...
I think the same. But it is going to be maintained by ECMC. So I wish a single Stone made Statue would be easier for maintenance. Otherwise they will make it in artificial concrete like structures like the earlier Rock mount fountain placed in PS Park. That would go waste in few years. I hope they would plan wisely and keep this as a landmark of Erode forever, like Kalaimadu Statue near Junction.

Erode-Mettupalayam highway has been taken up for 4-laning under TNRSP-II with World Bank funding. As a pat of this, Chithode-Gobi has been taken up as Phase-I and tenders called for Rs.270 Crore.

Now the survey underway for extending the Phase-I from Erode Central BS - Chithode for 8km. This stretch is entirely coming up in ECMC Limits. It seems it will take 2years for the Ground works to begin!:bash:

No idea of the CM's announcement of Elevated Corridor between SSVN School to Swastik Corner.

Though the title is slightly misleading, the opposition started for both CBE-Sathy-Bannari and Erode-Gobi.:bash:

They don't want to have Gobi bypass by acquiring 200acres of land. They want the road though the town.

Center medians demolished along Poondurai Road from Nadarmedu to Moolapalayam Petrol Bunk to facilitate road widening. Those medians were wide and occupied more space of road. Hope they will widen the road and place replaceable medians. Still the lamp posts are in the middle.

Still I doubt whether this stretch will be widened to 4lane capacity?

Widening of Thindal - Villarasampatti - Periyasemur (8.4km) Link Road - tenders called for Rs.17.20Crores.

Widening and improving the road to Multilane branching from Thindal Junction at Km7 2 of Erode Perundurai Kangeyam road SH 96 to Km158 4 of Ooty Kothagiri Mettupalayam Sathy Gobi Erode road SH15 near Kaniravutharkulam via Villarasampatty Km 0 0 8 4

The road is being widened from 5.5m to 10.5m and pavement strengthening and 1.5m wide drain culverts on the side. Acute bends were not going to be straightened due to budget constraints. With the spcifications given, I can understand it is going to be a proper 3-lane road with center median. (Like the Sampath Nagar Main Road)

TNRSP-II Additional funding projects.
Link : TNRSP-2 Additional funding Environmentaland SocialImpact Assessment Report

It will be 4-lane with paved shoulders and footpath/utility space. This Chithode - Swastik corner stretch is 81% Built-up area. So this will be a proper 4-lane city road for Erode.

Dimensions:
* Urban section of Chithode-Swastik Corner : 4 lane with 26m Right of way; 1.6m median; 7+7m Carriage; 2+2m paved shoulder; 1.7+1.7m Utility; 1.5+1.5m drain-cum-footpath
