Good, Erode is elevated road on 3 sides entering into city.

From Coimbatore/Tirupur on Perundurai road.
From Sathy/Gobi on Sathy road
From Salem/Tiruchengode/Namakkal road on Palipalayam road.

This is quiet ahead than any two tier city in TN. Wonder if this will be on priority list once the gvt changes.
After DFR, it is DPR submission along with budget estimate to get administrative sanction then tender. During waiting time of DPR, soil testings will be done.

Chithode (Sathy road) Elevated corridor is being planned along with 4-laning of chithode-swastik corner section under tnrsp. So, either they will plan both of these together or elevated corridor will be built after completing 4 laning or they will threw away the project.

If they plan both together it is better since they can plan wide medians which can accommodate the pillars of flyover.

They should necessarily come up with one more elevated corridor for south towards karur/vellakoil.

Bringing an Elevated corridor on old karur road for 5 km from periyar mandram/bullfight corner to proposed Solar Mofussil Bus terminal along old karur road will eliminate three level crossings.

This Solar (Karur Road) Elevated Corridor is much essential for the south bound traffic.

Road widening works going on in Ring Road between Anaikalpalayam (SH-83) and Muthugoundenpalayam (NH-381A).

No idea of whether it is just making paved shoulder or making it as 4-lane!

But I am sure , it will need 4-laning within few years once it is completely opened it will witness heavy traffic.

Administrative Sanction of Rs.20.85 Crores for the work of Widening the Thindal - Villarasampatty - Periasemur Link Road (8.4 km) to Multilane. This is including Land Acquisition.

Is Multilane means 3-lane with divided carriageway?
I hope it would be atleast like Salem Steel Plant Road, if not a full-fledged 4-lane! (But Erode-Perundurai Road near Perundurai for few kms they widened from 4-lane to 6-lane, for that they mentioned Multilane in tender! Confusing.)

Work to re-lay Kollampalayam bypass road begins

The one-km narrow stretch passes through residential areas and connects Karur Bypass Road with Erode Main Road.
Preliminary work to re-lay the Kollampalayam bypass road, which turned unmotorable after it was dug for various development works, began here recently.
The one-km narrow stretch passes through residential areas and connects Karur Bypass Road with Erode Main Road. Since vehicles from the outskirts use the road to enter the city, the stretch is busy round the clock. The Erode Corporation, in March, carried out underground sewerage scheme works and later laid water pipelines under the dedicated water supply scheme. The road was again dug for house service connections. After all these works, the condition of the road turned worse and it became unmotorable. During rainy season, water stagnated in pits leading to accidents.

Following this, the residents and motorists demanded the authorities to re-lay the road at the earliest.
The Highways Department has begun work to remove the old tar-topped surface. The road would then be filled with gravel and tar-topped again. The work is expected to be completed in two weeks.
However, the residents opined that the department should have re-laid the road during the lockdown period, as closure of the busy stretch for a week would affect the movement of vehicles.

Motorists Want Underpass At K.K. Nagar In Erode Widened

With vehicle flow on Chennimalai Road is expected to increase after the completion of Erode Outer Ring Road project, motorists want the railway underpass at K.K. Nagar widened to make it easy for heavy vehicles to pass through.

After the Corporation limits were extended on Chennimalai Road, many residential localities have come up on the stretch, making it one of the busiest roads in the city. The narrow underpass at K.K. Nagar allows passage of just one bus at a time while lorries and other heavy vehicles cannot use the underpass. Since many residential areas, schools and colleges have come up on the road, movement of vehicles is very high during the day. Seepage from Lower Bhavani Project canal and rain cause water logging in the underpass, thus preventing the movement of vehicles.

“It is a busy stretch and two-wheelers, cars and other four-wheelers have to wait when a bus passes through the underpass,” said T. Muthukumaran of Rangampalayam. He said once the ring road project was completed, there would be an increase in the vehicles using the stretch.

Members of Erode South District Bharatiya Janata Party have been urging the district administration to construct another underpass for the heavy vehicles. “Devotees from other States visit Arulmigu Subramanya Swamy temple in Chennimalai regularly. But their buses cannot pass through the underpass,” they said.

During peak hours, vehicles have to wait on both sides to allow vehicles from one side to pass through. “It is a long-pending demand of the public to widen the underpass,” said T. Jayaseelan of Vellode. He wanted widening works completed during the lockdown period.

Thoppur-Mettur-Bhavani-Erode NH-544H to be widened by the State wing of National Highways.

Alleging no action, Tamil Nadu takes back 144 km road from NHAI :
A week ago the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari confirmed the development after meeting the Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami.

Two years after being brought under National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for widening, two highways running for about 144 km in western districts of the State had been returned back to the Tamil Nadu highways department.

The inordinate delay in developing the roads into four lanes by NHAI had been cited as one of the reasons for bringing the roads under State highways. The move seemingly planned at improving road connectivity towards Dharmapuri, Hosur and Bengaluru. A week ago the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari confirmed the development after meeting the Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami.

The Athur-Perambalur NH 176 (55.4 km) and Thoppur - Mettur - Bhavani - Erode NH 544H (89 km) will be widened by National Highways wing of State highways, said official sources. The up-gradation of Thoppur - Mettur - Bhavani - Erode NH would provide an alternative route in Bengaluru – Coimbatore road network.

Presently vehicles from Benglauru/Hosur reach Coimbatore via Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Thoppur, Salem, Bhavani and Avinashi on Salem – Kochin NH 544. “The existing stretch from Thoppur and Erode has got seven meters width. After completing the paper works, the road will be upgraded into four lanes. Thereafter, vehicles from Dharmapuri can directly reach Bhavani via Thoppur and Mettur skipping Salem thereby cutting 25 km travel,” said a senior official from highways.

Considering the huge vehicle movement for heavy industries and agriculture in the corridor, the widening works would give impetus to the local economy along the stretch. Besides, reducing the travel time, the move would also decongest Salem – Kochi NH and Salem city.

Similarly, the upgradation of Athur - Perambalur NH 176 (55.4 km) would provide faster connectivity for vehicles coming from Perambur and Ariyalur towards Salem, Dharmapuri, Hosur, Bengaluru and Erode. “The widening plans will be decided after studying the vehicular traffic in the stretch.

Nasiyanur - Mettukadai Link road widening works going on. Just proper 2 laning.

Also all the minor bridges are being widened along thindal-periasemur link road. Probably as a part of multilaning.

Two years back, they mentioned as 85km of Thoppur-Erode NH-544H will be four-laned. (Assumed it as upto RN Pudur)
Now they are stating it as 89km Thoppur-Erode NH-544H will be four-laned. (upto BP Agraharam - Periyasemur Link Road)

Still no clarity. Also, Bhavani-Karur declared as NH and new alignment surveyed as Cauvery River Bank Road from Bhavani Konavaikkal (NH-544) to Karur Road near Lakkapuram for 14km. But no update on this too!

Vellakoil-Erode-Sankagiri NH-381A Bharatmala Phase-I Inter-corridor project is also in shelves.

Need to wait till how the DPR comes out on each of this! But the DPR preperations for all these projects started in 2018 or 2019, will those get released now?

Narrow stretch on Chennimalai Road in Erode causes congestion

Due to frequent accidents, the Highways Department placed median in the stretch from SIDCO to the newly-constructed railway overbridge near the bus depot.

With the narrow stretch of the Chennimalai Road, near TNSTC office, causing frequent traffic congestion, road users wanted the road to be widened after which they wanted medians to be installed.
Industries, TNSTC office and bus depots, government offices, educational institutions, and hospitals were present on the road that leads to Vellode and Chennimalai. With frequent accidents taking place on the road, the Highways Department placed median in the stretch from SIDCO to the newly-constructed railway overbridge near the bus depot. Since the road was not widened, the stretch witnesses frequent traffic congestion throughout the day and also during night hours.
Frequent movement of trucks and buses to and from the depots is causing congestion as even a two-wheeler cannot overtake those vehicles. Hence, other vehicles have to follow the buses until it enters the depot, said V. Moorthy of Kasipalayam. He said that placing medians without widening the road is a major reason for congestion in the stretch.

On Wednesday, members of Erode South District BJP submitted a petition to the Superintendent of Police P. Thangadurai saying that medians cause traffic congestion on the stretch. They said that during night hours, buses were checked and allowed into the depot, which causes delays resulting in piling up of vehicles on both sides. They said that buses line-up on the narrow road affecting the movement of other vehicles.

“Traffic congestion is common on the stretch during night hours”, they said and wanted the road to be widened after which medians should be placed. “Until then, medians should be removed”, they added.
