Etihad Airways Eyes Brisbane & Perth

Etihad Airways will commence services into either Brisbane or Perth as it looks to build on its current Sydney service, writes Michael Bruce in Dubai.

A spokeswoman said the airline, which was granted increased frequencies to and from Australia in March (Travel Today, March 26) was eyeing either the Queensland or Western Australian capital as it next port.

Melbourne, she said, was not on the radar at this stage. “Melbourne is well served by Emirates so that’s something we have to consider,” the spokeswoman said.

There has been no timeline given on when the new services will commence. The spokeswoman also said the carrier is examining the prospect of double daily flights into Sydney, a route it launched in March.
Going to be tough choosing between PER and BNE. Both ports are equally worthy of new flights and both need extra capacity.

I really do hate this airline!:bash:

What will happen when QR decide to launch another Australian city?

That means, assuming QR's next city is BNE, will have EK, QR and EY!

Why does it always have to be a case of "you're getting more than me". Are you able to post something that doesn't resemble whinging? It's all you seem to do. If BNE gets QR in addition to EY, well that's life. Move on!

:mad2:

With regards to EY, I would imagine (subject to aircraft availability) they would try and commence services before year's end.

PER is good because it's closer to the UAE, however Brisbane is good too because out of the four largest cities it is the only one not to have twice daily EK services or have a non-stop flight.
So that leaves some questions to be asked
Will they delay the decision until they find out if BNE is getting more Emerates flights?
Will the fact BNE didn't get the Tiger Domestic Base influence the decision?
Then theres the extemely low chance a future decision by Virgin Atlantic to fly to Perth direct may influence the decision.

hmm

Dude get over it.

Neonxian,
I can't see why BNE not getting Tiger's base would influence the decision?

I don't get the cheaper airlines operating out of Tullamurine, doesn't it cost more to get out there from the CBD.? At the off peak times of year, the price differences across the board doesn't vary that much.

From what I know of the Etihad family, there's probably a good chance they'll operate the airline from BNE, if they could, central ops possibly out of the Gold Coast.

Yes every airline wants to fly to everywhere else except Melbourne!! Its a conspiracy, they all hate MEL .. according to Qantas743..:eek:hno:

And for once stop asking questions where its likely no-one will know the answer.

Seriously though MEL has JQ's HQ (with their hub in SYD), and now Tiger Airways Aust.

To mean cost for people to take a bus/taxi/etc from the city to the airport? Melbourne wouldn't be that much more expensive than Brisbane. The bus is about a dollar or two more. Both take about the same amount of time I think.

What do you mean operate the airline out of BNE? That doesn't make any sense. Also the Gold Coast wouldn't even rate a mention with Etihad.

Where is Etihad based exactly?

I hope it flies to Perth, it's difficult getting flights out as they're always full.
How often does Emirates fly out of Perth? Daily?
Abu Dhabi. good to see the aviation cheer is being spread around :D

Etihad sucks

All the way with Qatar and Tiger! :cheer:
Abu Dhabi airport is really quite hideous, but I expect that some rich Sheik will be taking care of that sooner or later.

Abu Dhabi Airport

See what I mean. It's a horrible place to fly into. It's like the designers were LSD freaks.

Thats horrible lol, Perth Airport is also extremely ugly but in a different way lol, i hope that Perth airport gets that major upgrade (combined terminal)before 2024
That is pretty funky in a 70s sort of way.
It's just a very strange place. I stopped over there on a flight back from London, as soon as everyone got off the plane and walked into the terminal, they all went into shock. It's just not what you're expecting when you land.

It's a really small airport too, only a handfull of gates.
