Santiago - Andes - Valparaíso - Viña del Mar

Hi guys!

Last month I had the chance to visit Chile. What an amazing country!

I took some nice pics and I'd like to share some of them. I'm not a professional photographer and the cameras I used were very basic, so I hope you understand

It won't be a long thread since I don't have many good pics. I didn't visit the whole country, just Santiago, the Andes, Valparaíso and Viña del Mar. I was in a group of friends and a few relatives.

Chileans are very sympathic and receptive, the food is great and the cities are super beautiful.

This thread will have posts dividing some pics of each day I've spent there. I will try to describe some parts of my travel itinerary (unfortunately I don't have good pictures of all the places I visited).

Day 1

Just on the plane lol
We left Belém (BEL) at 3 PM and arrived in São Paulo (BEL) at 7:15 PM. Flying over Amazon:

Later, at 8 PM we took an almost 5-hour flight from São Paulo (GRU) to Santiago (SCL).

Day 2

September 9th

We left the hotel in the morning and we went to Santiago's Downtown. We had a stop in Plaza de Armas, a very beautiful square full of historic buildings, including Santiago Metropolitan Cathedral.

We also stopped at Palácio de La Moneda (but I don't have decent pics lol). Then, we went to Parque de Las Esculturas, a very pleasant urban park with a nice view.

Later we visited a winery called Concha y Toro.

Day 3

September 10th

What a wonderful day! On this day we had the opportunity of visiting the outstanding Andes. In the morning we took ski lessons at El Colorado Ski Center - 3,000 m above sea level:

Then we went to Farellones (+2,500 m above sea level) where we had lunch and took some photos. The day was very cloudy with some light or moderate snow showers.

Day 4

September 11st

On this day we had to go to Downtown to make money exchange, so after that we spent some time walking in the beautiful street of Santiago's Downtown.

Close to the metro station. Entel Tower:

We've been to Palacio de La Moneda and Plaza de Armas again (the day was very sunny and a warmer!). Some pics of Palacio de La Moneda (chilean government offices):

Walking a little bit we got to Plaza de Armas:

Our lunch was in a restaurant called El Giratorio (far from Downtown, we had to take the metro to get there), a very famous restaurant located in the top of a building. This restaurant is quite interesting, it rotates 360º while you eat, you can see great part of Santiago from there, an amazing view! Unfortunately the pictures I took are not so good.

Later we went to a outlet mall called Parque Arauco, a very beautiful mall. Then, we did a quick visit to an urban park called Parque Araucano (I don't have decent pics).

Day 5

September 12nd

We woke up very early and took the bus to Valparaíso, around 120 km from Santiago. The landscape is very picturesque with vineyards and the Cordillera de la Costa (a mountain range located in the center of Chile):

We did a quick stop at a restaurant in the highway, called Los Hornitos de Curacaví, it looked like a very traditional chilean restaurant with waiters wearing traditional clothes (unfortunately I don't have good pictures of this place).

Some time later we finally got to Valparaíso. The view is amazing, a combination of lots of houses in the hills, historic buildings and the mighty Pacific Ocean.

We stopped at Plaza Sotomayor to take some pictures and visit a handicraft fair close to the port (sorry for the cables in the first photo)

After that, we went to Viña del Mar. We stopped at the famous Reloj de Flores (flowers clock):

Then, we had lunch in a restaurant (the food was not the best but the restaurant was very classy) close to the coast (I just have pictures of the landscape in front of the restaurant).

A little bit later we visited a beach to take some photos.

It was a very quick but very interesting visit.

At 6 PM we were already back to Santiago, so we decided to watch the sunset in the top of the tallest building of Latin America, the Costanera Center with a maximum height of 300 meters. This place is called Sky Costanera and it is exactly in the top of the building. The view is absolutely spectacular:

We spent the whole afternoon there, during the night as everybody was very tired we just ate something in the fast foods close to the hotel.

Day 7

September 14th

In this day we left the hotel in the morning to visit Cerro Santa Lucía, a hill in Downtown Santiago where the city was founded. The day was cloudy and colder and some smog was still visible.

View from the hotel:

After many steps, finally in the top of the hill!

Later we returned to the hotel and I decided to walk in the surroundings of the hotel to look for a supermarket to buy some wines.

At night we went to a show dinner called Bali Hai, a very touristic restaurant with presentations of Chilean and Polynesian dances (it was not the best restaurant of the trip - I don't have decent pics).

This was supposed to be our last day in Chile

I forgot to mention but September 14th was supposed to be our last day in Chile.

These remind me a lot of the view over Athens from Lycabettus hill, albeit with taller buildings. Even the topography is similar!
I had never heard about Lycabettus Hill, I searched some pictures and indeed, it is quite similar to Cerro Santa Lucía!
