QATAR Foundation has announced the establishment of an Islamic Studies College at Education City.
" The institution will open in September with a General Diploma in Islamic Studies ," advisory committee Chair and noted Islamic scholar Dr Yusuf Al Qaradawi said.
This is to be followed by Masters' Programmes in Islamic studies with specialisation in contemporary Fiqh (Islamic Jurisprudence) and public policy in is Islam.
In June 2003, a decree was issued to establish an advisory committee to study the project of an Islamic Studies College.
The committee has as members, Dr Mohamed Fathy Saoud, Dr Ezzedin Ibrahim, Prof Abdelhafez Helmy Mohamed, Dr Mohamed Haytham AlKhayat, Prof Sherman Jackson, Dr Aisha Al Mannai and Dr TJ Winter.
The vision, pursued over the past three years, is to produce generations of scholars who are proficient in the ideology of Islamic fundamentals and culture and knowledgeable in contemporary Islamic thought.
" Seven months ago Dr Hatem Al Karanshawy was appointed Dean of the proposed institotion, which would have a Sunni faculty," Dr Al Qaradawi stated.

Good news but I know QF had invited the world's top contractors to bid for this project. Yet I'm sure they went for the lowest bid - this CCC has a cheap reputation. Doesn't make me optimistic.

Qatar Faculty of Islamic studies to offer new diploma


Doha: Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies (QFIS) has announced the launch of a new diploma programme entitled ‘’The Public Policy in Islam’’. The programme will start in the next academic semester.

“The Public Policy in Islam Programme of the Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies is proud to offer a diploma programme in public policy in Islam,” a statement on the institution’s website said. QFIS Dean Dr Hatem Al Karnashawi signed an agreement on this regard with director of Wqaf Trusts Department Mohamed Lahdan Al Mohannadi in the presence of Minister of Awqaf (endowments) and Islamic Affairs H E Ghaith bin Mubarak Al Kuwari and Qatar Foundation chairman Dr Fathi Saeed. According to the agreement, seven scholarships will be offered to students annually. QNA

30 scholars attend international ethics workshop

Texas A&M University at Qatar yesterday opened a two-day international ethics workshop at Education City’s Qatar Foundation Student Center.
The event, ‘Professional Ethics in a Globalised World: Towards a Unified East-West Perspective,’ is presented in partnership with the Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies.
It brings together over 30 leading ethics scholars for discussions, roundtables and panels designed to examine current thinking and establish priorities to achieve a truly international perspective on professional ethics.
Dr Hassan Bashir, Texas A&M at Qatar assistant professor of political science and event organiser, said the ultimate purpose of the workshop is to lay the foundation for future work on developing a unified East-West or global perspective on professional ethics.

Qatar First Investment Bank sponsors Islamic finance Course at Qatar Foundation

The Islamic Contemporary Financial Transactions training course concluded its last session today. The training course was organized by the Faculty of Islamic Studies in Qatar (QFIS), a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science & Community Development, in collaboration with the International Union for Muslim Scholars (IUMS). Qatar First Investment Bank (QFIB) was the official sponsor of this training course.
