Not a dumb idea for a thread. I have never been to Australia. I would say that my favorite Aussie city that I've never been to is either Sydney or Melbourne based on my internet research. Not sure which one I would like better.
I don't know much about Australian cities, but from what I've seen and the very little reading I've done on them, Melbourne seems like a beautiful city, so it gets my vote. As well, the Royal Exhibition Building is stunning!
Something tells me I would prefer Melbourne because of the light rail and the history. However, I am intrigued by Sydney's neighborhoods like Darlingurst, Paddington, Surry Hills and the notorious Red Fern.
From what I've heard Brisbane is more sprawlsy and slightly behind the times in terms of fashion and style compared to Sydney and Melbourne. Perth seems so alone yet so laid back.
Again this is speculation. I know nothing I just pick up on others impressions.
