Lahore: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA)’s governing body has approved the construction of a multi-storey LDA Tower Complex costing PKR 10 billion, according to a news source. This multi-storey tower is going to be constructed at the vacant site of the old fruit and vegetable market on Ferozepur Road, at Kot Lakhpat.

Details of this, along with various other projects around the city were discussed at a meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister’s Advisor and the LDA Governing Body member, and attended by various government and LDA dignitaries. The city builder has approved the hiring of a consultant to initiate planning for the construction of the proposed complex.

Apart from this, LDA has also decided to repair and upgrade pedestrian bridges at Jail Road and Mall Road. These were constructed a few years ago in front of Lahore College for Women University, Kinnaird College, and Panorama Centre along Mall Road, and would now be repaired at a cost of PKR 41.57 million. The same governing body carrying out the repairs is also concerned with transforming Abdul Haque Road into a signal-free corridor from the UBD Canal to Southern Bypass, coming at a cost of about PKR 375.873 million

10 billion rupees would be 100 million dollars. That's a fairly realistic amount for a skyscraper but I wish they'd built it either in Gulberg or in that Johar Town Commercial Area.

PS: What is the future plan for the site on ferozpur road opposite Gaddafi stadium?
It's still owned by Taavun (JV of Punjab Govt. and Abu Dhabi Group), given that Abu Dhabi group is pulling investment out of Pakistan, I expect Taavun to formally close down soon. Hopefully they will auction the land soon after.

Meanwhile, LDA has intended to utilise 130 kanal vacant land adjacent to Arfa Karim Tower on Ferozpur Road. The land went vacant after shifting of fruit and vegetable market. A senior LDA official said the authority intends to construct state-of-the-art multipurpose high rise complex at the vacant land.

He revealed that the complex will include office tower with seminar/convention halls, community centre, indoor sports facilities and gym, recreational swimming pool, food courts, banquet halls, cinemas and theatres and parking facilities.

LDA chief engineer said the project cost is roughly estimated to the tune of Rs9 billion, which included tentative consultancy cost. He said LDA intended to start the project for which, as first step, architectural and structural consultant will be hired in accordance with the P&D guidelines for selection of consultancy services. The case has been placed before the Authority and the plan will be funded through LDA’s own sources, he concluded.
