I am opening a new thread where all of us can post pictures of NYC and life in it. It may not be fancy and glamorous, but it should show life around us as it is in reality. I hope that everyone will participate.

Well, last week I went to the grand opening of the new High Line park in Chelsea.

For full set, you can visit my flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/kelving525/sets/72157619521206838/

And a few panoramas of the park, sorry if they're a bit small but they were from my flickr. If anyone wants to see the full version, let me know.

^^whats the story behind those train tracks and stuff?
^^whats the story behind those train tracks and stuff?
The park is built on a formerly active elevated railroad track so they've incorporated the tracks, gravel, etc into the design of the landscaping. Before they made the highline into a park there was already plenty of plant life growing on the abandoned tracks so I guess they wanted to recreate/preserve that condition of plants sprouting between the tracks.

It is going to be (hopefully :)) a very big development of skyscrapers at this place - look in Hudson Yards development thread. High line is part of the landscape there.
I think this park is a must-visit!

What did the sign say that the Hassidic guy is holding? Nice shots again btw.

well the picture was done at Jewish holiday called Sukkot. And he is holding the so called The Four Species which are:

* Lulav (לולב) – a ripe, green, closed frond from a date palm tree
* Hadass (הדס) – boughs with leaves from the myrtle tree
* Aravah (ערבה) – branches with leaves from the willow tree
* Etrog (אתרוג) – the fruit of a citron tree

Every Jew is invited into some sort of temporary shelter. Where he is asked to
pray together and offered food and drinks. This is going on for the whole week
- usually right after the Jewish New Year. It is considered a very good deed
and god suppose to acknowledge your piety if you take the time to do that.

here is one of these shelters in front of UN building

I took a picture of the Chrysler Building as well a few days ago.

This is probably the most elegant tower in NYC as of today!
Wow. 10 minutes ago I was starting to hate living here, and looking up places to move to. But now I am in love with this city again. Weird.
^^Is it the weather?

Chrysler is very elegant. They can sure try and imitate but theres only one. Nice pics everyone.
