First Glimpse at Yorkdale Mall Renovation

CityTV did a short peice on Yorkdale, the article is located here. I haven't seen any other photos or videos anywhere, so this might be our first glimpse into what the final project will look like.

These are the videos of the interior, slow and highspeed feeds:

I have to say I like the open glass atrium, it makes the mall look like a street covered with glass. Very urban looking on the interior, as the architect says they are "trying to emulate an external experience." Of course to promote a car-culture they have already increased parking by 200 spots, but I think it's a good looking project nonetheless.

It sort of looks like the Eaton Centre in that pic with the glass roof.
It looks great, I'm glad to see H&M taking over Toronto at last.
It looks like a nice addition.
Wish A/X , A&F,Bath&Body works would be here as well.
Yeah, the Eaton's was nice, and the eatons was alright. But this at least makes good use of the space. It's strange the Armani|Exchange isn't in TO; it's in Vancouver! I thought for sure that Yorkdale would produce an A&F since its committment to enter the Toronto and Edmonton market in 2005. Maybe they're keeping a site secret.
Personally i think its pretty gay what there doing to yorkdale

it used to be so much cooler back in the day(mid 90s) before all the expansions

i loved the old movie theatre, the one before the silver city came in

now the place is too posh and full of jappy stores and such

i miss the good old days

What do you have against gays and Japanese people?
What good ol' days are you referring to? Yorkdale in the mid-90s had one of the only Holt Renfrews, Banana Republics, Harry Rosens in town. It's always been upscale. Should gays and Jewish American Princesses (JAPs) not be able to shop at the same mall as bigots like you?

"pretty gay"
"jappy stores"

Perhaps you were hoping for a Nazi Parephenalia Wholesaler?
You guys need to calm down, he was just using some common street phrase.

calling him a bigot and ignorant isn't the way to go either, i don't think it was his intention to offend anyone, it's like calling any canadian who says "eh" at the end of his sentence, stupid.

if you don't agree ith his speech tell him to drop it rather than getting all worked up.

Would you be saying that if he used the "N" word, or ****, *****, etc.?
^ no shit... how is the word 'gay' used as a negative connotation for something, anything like 'eh'? 'Eh' doesn't carry overtones insulting to a particular demographic.
JAP in the most recent slang means Jewish American Princesses, who really don't have to be jewish at all, so i don't know what that sort of stereotyping is used in that Phrase. However, it is hardly rude now, and it essentially refers to a girl who is snobby or coming in with a holier then thou attitud3e

those are actuall racist terms,

but me going to a bunch of friends thats such a desi (brown) thing to do; isn't a racist thing to say.

just as saying something is gay, is not meant to be offensive. but if you find it offensive just tell someone in a more appropriate way.

its like when someone says god damn, their intention is not damn god, it has become common speech

calling someoe a ***** or someting, that is offensive.

but my point is calling some one a bigot and ignorant over something like that is kinda of extreem.

if someone came out saying "let's kill **** and jews" yeah that person would be a bigot and ignorant

But it is offensive. To say it's "gay" means you're saying it's bad. Now you could try and argue that's just my interpretation in this instance...but in that case I'd like to know exactly what they're doing to the mall is "gay"...does it look like Church and Wellsley? Does it have a gay theme?

Secondly, "desi" is not a derogatory term. Jap is.
I don't think using what "could" be interpreted as a derogatory term is the big problem....intention is...and I don't think most people (generally young people) who use the term are intending to be derogatory...they are just using popular phrases of the moment.

You just need to edit yourself when using it in mixed company, otherwise you run the risk of offending.

I hope Dan from TO and Omersheik are banned from this forum. Using antisemitic and antigay terms or defending their use should not be permited on this forum. If you can't understand the difference between the word "eh" and a racial slur, you are either racist, or have an IQ below room temperature. If we let racists and gay bashers post on this forum, that will set a terrible precedent. Isn't racist posting a violation of the terms of this message board? Or is it OK when it's targeted at Jews and gays?
