Following the construction of the multilane Thika highway and other factors like its proximity to Nairobi, the presence of established industrial centres in Ruiru and Thika plus a rich agricultural hinterland; there has been a flurry of activity as property developers rush into the county with various residential developments.

I just wanted to showcase what's coming up in this county and its overall effect on the Nairobi metropolitan region. Post any projects, development news and pictures of this county here.

Fourways Junction.

This project is coming up at the intersection of Kiambu road and the Northern bypass. The first phase is already complete.

The Fourways Junction development is a new project being undertaken in Kenya’s capital city, Nairobi. Construction is underway and when complete it will have a total of 850 units within a gated property that will include offices, BPO park, mall , a hotel and a country club. The new project is located on Kiambu Road along the northern part of the city.

The project is being undertaken by the Suraya Property Group, a local developer, and is being financed by Standard Chartered Bank. “The idea is to develop affordable housing by working with financial institutions, land owners and property experts,” said Patrick Muraya, the chief executive of Suraya Property Group.

The construction of the first phase of 233 houses begins in May. These are scheduled for completion by the end of 2010 and the prices range from Sh4.9 million to Sh16 million. Buyers who want to finance a property at Fourways Junction will have to process their mortgage through Standard Chartered Bank, which is part of the equity financing arrangement that enabled the project to get underway.

Not very far from Fourways....

Tatu City.

Tatu City is a new city located within Greater Nairobi - a dynamic mixed-use environment that will be home to an estimated 62,000 residents who will have the opportunity to live-work-play within their community; as well as 23 000 day visitors.

The vision for Tatu City is the creation of a world-class, mixed-use new city, located within Greater Nairobi – East Africa's new economic hub.

The site of the proposed development is over 1000 hectares in size.

Part of the land to be developed is currently a producing coffee farm and coffee production will continue during development of Tatu City. In fact the planners have insisted on maintaining respect for the coffee farming heritage as evidenced in the attention shown to the environment planning and design.

Kiambu county will be a very rich county.Though it has lots of insecurity issues, particularly places like Kiambu and banana and Ruiri.
I think it already is one of Kenya's wealthiest counties. Though you are right. security is a major issue.

Kiambu county is surely blessed with infrastructure and big developments. You should also mention Thika Road which has a section cutting through the county.
Yeah. Plus large sections of both the northern and eastern bypasses. I'm guessing this county might host most of Nairobi's metropolitan population in future together with Kajiado county to the south of the city.
