Some photos of the North Circular Road (A406) in London :)

Briefly - it's an expressway, running through the London's northern suburbs. Usually, it has 2 or 3 lanes in each direction, mostly without hard shoulders, but there are few bottlenecks, where it returns to a single carriageway (1x2 / 1x3) road with traffic lights, going through residential areas :bash:

Sample pictures:)

Stonebridge Park Junction

Near Neasden/Wembley

Staples Corner (where it meets M1 motorway)

On a flyover:)

Brent Cross

And a bottleneck in Arnos Grove area :( There are plans to widen it to 2 lanes in each direction. However, they don't include building grade separated junctions :(

And back on a true expressway :)

2x5 section before interchange with M11:)

^^ No, they're all the same, clearly visible at high speed :) But you can't see it on the photos very well because of short exposure time.

And this time, pictures from

M4 motorway in London (J1 - J4B), westbound - Picasa Web Album, 55 photos

Few photos :)

Beginning of the motorway

However, it doesn't suit standards of the motorway - no hard shoulders, sharp curves, speed limit (40 mph). This flyover was built about 40 years ago.

And back on the ground, after junction 2:)

Another series, this time

A40 in London - Hanger Lane to Edgware Road (incl. Westway flyover) - 52 pictures

blue - motorway standard
red - just dual carriageway road :)

Beginning of the Marylebone Flyover :) This road was to become part of Ringway 1 (which never materialised).

Back on a flyover :) This road was built in a motorway standard. However, since about 2002 it is signed as a normal road (with a 50 mph speed limit).

White City in the background :)

The end of the expressway :(

Carriageway widening

Hanger Lane junction, where our journey ends :)

^^ I'd worry more about traffic safety in these situations. How the hell do you get on the road with such busy traffic, especially when you're driving reverse?
I think there are smaller parallel roads between the houses and the expressway that don't have acces to the expressway.

In the Netherlands, the limit is 48 dB. It can be raised to 63 dB with good arguments, but not automatically.
48dB is very low compared to 65dB...
