General Electric to set up Mideast and Africa headquarters in Internet City

:runaway:

Dubai:

General Electric, the global technology, media and financial services company, will establish its new Middle East and Africa headquarters in Dubai Internet City, company representatives said.

General Electric's (GE) move allows the company to benefit from Dubai Internet City's world-class infrastructure and environment and is part of its plans to expand its operations in the region, they said. GE has been active in the Gulf since 1933.

Under an agreement signed by Ahmad Bin Byat, director-general of Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone and Nabeel Habayeb, GE's president and chief executive for the Middle East and Africa region, GE's facility, currently under development, will cover 65,000 square feet. When its new facility is completed, US-based GE will be the company with the largest presence in Dubai Internet City.

"By establishing our regional headquarters at DIC, we are taking a significant step towards implementing our growth strategy for the region," Habayeb said.

"We are delighted to welcome GE to the DIC community. We believe that DIC is an ideal location for multinationals such as GE to base their headquarters. It meets their needs for state-of-the-art telecommunication and IT systems in a rich and productive environment," Bin Byat said.

GE's facility, which will be operational by May 2006, will house more than 250 employees representing the company's different businesses in the region.
