They culled the pigeon population in Trafalgar Square because it got out of control. With no predators and abundant scraps it can quickly get out of hand.

Not to mention that bird shit is a bit threat to the city's stonework and statues.

I always find it hilarious how you get posh pigeons in posh areas and scabby ones in shit areas. That's when I'll know we've regenerated the city centre: when I see beautifully preened park circus pigeons hanging around st enoch square.

Don't hate it, but it imposes on the lovely Grecian Chambers next door. They could at least add some active frontage.

The flowerbeds just seem so unnecessary. They take up too much space, they'll be lifeless in the winter and before long they'll be stamped on/strewn with litter.

If they are so wary about having tree roots interfering with street infrastructure then use planters instead.

We need to have realistic expectations here. Keep things simple.

The vulnerability to grafitti was a big discussion point on here when it was first installed. It's a shame because all things considered I quite like it, it's not generic anywheresville like the Govan-Partick proposal.

Cardiff is right though. The Avenue plans and the redevelopment of George Square will go a long way to fix that perception, but the progress is glacial.
