could you elaborate on how this list is compiled?
I was thinking the same thing. Is this a "List your 50 favourite cities in the World"?
No ^^^

I was thinking in propose a list like the "GaWC Inventory of World Cities", the famous rank of "global cities" (alpha cities, beta cities, etc).
Where are Beijing, Shanghai, Singapore, Mumbai, Sao Paulo, San Francisco? Both L.A and Chicago should be at least considered "B"-class I guess. The list as it is seems very euro-centric to me.

But anyway, I wouldn't blame the list in calling it subjective. ALL ranking lists are prodominanty subjective. At least it doesn't pretend to not be subjective as GAWC or Mastercard do.

Politics, bussines, competiveness, diplomacy, culture, sports, transport, tourism, etc.

yah, but as you may or may not have noticed they actually share their ranking criteria. yours is more than slightly vague.

Sorry, i wanted to put it, but i forgot it.

My criteria are in the precedent post.
Politics, bussines, competiveness, diplomacy, culture, sports, transport, tourism, etc.
right. this is the part i don't get: how could you possibly have the kind of expertise as to be able to rank world's cities according to your criteria? how many ph.ds do you have?
Rome is ranked below Barcelona because of:

Yo must be more polite.

My criteria are my criteria. If you don't like it, sorry, but you can't criticize my criteria.

?
Because, for me, Rome is less important than Barcelona in bussines, technology, etc.

Of course I can. If you make a list which would take God knows how many man-hours of research, then I only can assume its based on your feelings, rather than any objective criterion.
what's wrong this this list?

btw global cities and world cities are two completely different terms...
suprised they didnt put Dubai on the list!lol...

Okay:

Dear Sir,

If you insist that your criteria are your criteria and no one else's, then you will also have to accept that they are totally, utterly irrelevant to everybody else on the rest of this planet. Works both ways, see?

Regards,

Yrs. Truly,

Koen Acacia.

Spanish cities are doing well!:banana::banana:
Interesting how Spain's got two cities in the B list.

Anyhow, according to the GaWC (1999, I suspect Shanghai will have moved up a couple points)

Alpha world cities / full service world cities[7]

* 12 points: London, New York City, Paris, Tokyo
* 10 points: Chicago, Frankfurt, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Milan, Singapore

Beta world cities / major world cities

* 9 points: San Francisco, Sydney, Toronto, Zürich
* 8 points: Brussels, Madrid, Mexico City, São Paulo
* 7 points: Moscow, Seoul

Gamma world cities / minor world cities

* 6 points: Amsterdam, Boston, Caracas, Dallas, Düsseldorf, Geneva, Houston, Jakarta, Johannesburg, Melbourne, Osaka, Prague, Santiago, Taipei, Washington, D.C.
* 5 points: Bangkok, Beijing, Montreal, Rome, Stockholm, Warsaw
* 4 points: Atlanta, Barcelona, Berlin, Budapest, Buenos Aires, Copenhagen, Hamburg, Istanbul, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Miami, Minneapolis, Munich, Shanghai

And the Global Financial Centres Index (found on wikipedia)

The current top ten places are London, New York, Hong Kong, Singapore, Zurich, Frankfurt, Geneva, Chicago, Sydney and last Tokyo.
