Google chooses Kansas City for its ultra-fast internet - Google Fiber

This is already old news but I'm surprised that it doesn't have a thread here. This is one of the biggest things announced in the Midwest this year. Internet speeds 100 times faster than what users have right now. Here are a few videos discussing what it means to local businesses and homes.

Tomorrow is the big day they unvail it in Kansas City! I gave Time warner the heave-ho two weeks ago with their over priced cable and internet. Bastards.
I'm ready to sign up for google Fiber ASAP!!

I heard Time Warner is offering a $50 reward to people (i think its their employees) who can provide information on Google Fiber. This is prior to Google unvailing Fiber tomorrow. They probably aren't offering the $50 anymore but you know they are shaking in their boots cause everyone including myself hates Time Warner Cable.

Well, the pre-registration deadline for GoogleFiber is just a few hours away.
Below is the how the neighborhoods fell into place:
https://fiber.google.com/cities/kcmo/#header=check
https://fiber.google.com/cities/kck/#header=check

As can be seen, most of KCMO, and almost all of KCK, has met the deadline. some of the neighborhoods ended meeting the deadline by an absurdly high margin (Crown Center is first at 104%, which means that they will get the fiber first).
In any case, the part that is exciting me the most about this is that select institutions in qualifying neighborhoods (some schools, libraries, all the colleges/universities, and other attractions) are getting the internet service for free.

Though also as can be seen by the distribution, this was not without controversy.

Personally, I think that there isn't too much cause for concern, and most likely, Google will pick up any of the stragglers once the qualified neighborhoods have their fiber installed.
