There are a lot more Greeks in Australia, percentage-wise than in the USA. Why don't we read about more Greek Australians in that government? Thoughts?

For example in the USA we had Vice President Spiro Agnew in the 1970's, Mike Dukakis ran for President in 1988, George Tsongas ran for President in 1992, etc, etc, etc..

Seems to me-maybe incorrectly-that Greek Australians are more focussed on business enterprises. That a correct view?

There are plenty of Greek Australian politicians in Australia. They just have not assumed higher roles like party leader or a member of cabinet.

Its true that Greeks play a big role in Australian business, I remember reading that a fair percentage of Australias richest people were Greek.

Andrew Veniamin - slain underworld figure :eek:hno:

Why does he get a mention? There are other 'unsavoury' characters you could have included also. Besides, he was born in Cyprus to a Lebanese-Maronite family. Hardly Greek I'd say.

Also, some of the politicains mentioned are has-beens!! (Bolkus for one)

And others you failed to acknowledge all together such as Ken Michael, who holds a very high position in Western Australia.

I suggest you be more careful when copying and pasting!!

So, when are we going to see a Greek PM in Oz?

Incidentally, there are about 8-10 Greek Billionaires in the US and another 10 that are flirting with Billionaire status. I know two of them personally.

How about in Australia?

Hey Neorin, I suggest you stop purposely starting arguments.

What the hell is you're problem anyway?
Nobody can start a thread without you coming along and ruining it.

If you got nothing to say on the subject, then keep you're antagonistic bs to you're self for a change.

Here is another thread you have managed to turn into a personal slinging match single handedly.

I have to agree.
I don't get why he had to actually insult you with his post about "copy-paste". Insecure?

I have many bosses, oh wise one. One of them is indeed a Greek-Australian.

That much I have admitted previously in this forum. Now impress the forum with your insightfulness and tell me who my Greek-Australian boss is. Or admit to the forum you've been bested-once again.

Neorion, calm down please. No one wants to fight now ok?
Perfectly calm it was. Don't put your sticky beak in and incite things. You are not one to talk about 'calm'. Better for you to not get involved, otherwise you might 'lose it' again and earn yourself another infraction.

Quite far down the pecking order are we Sods? ;)

It must be Andrew Liveris. The Greek-Australian who came from beyond the black stump to climb America's corporate ladder, stepping all over the 'natives'.

Bested by the mighty Sodnal...NEVER!! :)

All gas and no spark, as demonstrated once again Neorion.

As for having many bosses, I sure do. Most top organizations are examples of basket-weave, cross-weave, this-weave, that-weave. Lots of accountability.

Still, I'm more than happy with my assignment and role. Excellent salary and bennies and maximum flexibility. Who could ask for more?

Sorry, I don't know Andrew Liveris. Sorrier for him, he doesn't know me.

So, Liveris is at Dow Chemical? They've had a series of Greek top leadership, including William Stavropoulos. He's now on numerous Board of Trustees, including those of some of my mutual fund holdings. I write him letters protesting the purchase of Turkish equities for the Funds while Turkey still occupies north Cyprus-he wrote me back once.

Greeks in America tend to stick together. On my flight over to Tokyo two days ago I had a guy sitting next to me and we started talking. Turns out he's Greek as well and heading on to Shanghai and Bombay. We belong to the same AHEPA chapter, although I'm not attending meetings like I did in the past. Small world.

Greeks in America tend to stick together.
You will probarbly find that everywhere in the world.
Australian-Greeks are especially notorious in this regard since we live in high concentrations.

Throughout my schooling I was surrounded by literally hundreds of Greeks and hence grew up knowing mainly only Greeks and the occasional Italian.
