It seems like a very bad decision to not include the widening at the same time. Like this, there will be (hopefully, if they ever widen it!) another construction site opening some time soon after the resurfacing; and with widening already now, if they first build the third lane, the effect of the resurfacing construction site would be way less, as there would be much more space available. They could also do the resurfacing more efficient (e.g. do a 4+0 configuration having all lanes on one widened carriageway, and work on the other one in the meantime).

In any case, as M1 already now is often having sever delays, with the construction site and not much space to drive by, any accident will result into a major standstill..

Is there an official number of how many km of motorway and expressway is currently in operation in Hungary, and how many km are under construction?

I know, its Wikipedia, but it seems accurate:
Wikipedia projects like these are very dependent on the activity a small group of dedicated editors.

The problem with Wikipedia is often that editors leave / become inactive once an article or article series is 'completed'. However Wikipedia is never completed because there are continuous changes. Which risks the project becoming severely outdated by 2-5 years.

A problem with Wikipedia is that specific projects are difficult to manage and keep track of outdated articles. The search engine is not good enough to track outdated articles, since you will be getting results from the entire Wikipedia (i.e. far too many results to manage). So you have to go through an entire article series manually. This sounds easier than it is.

Indeed. But in this case the editor is pretty active here, and shows a love for details. Anyway, HU network is somewhere around 1500 kms for sure. And we are waiting for another 100 kms to be completed this year (again, not counting M2, M15 and M70 which are already included in these 1500 kms).

That (planned) new road category of "R" was dropped after all, wasn't it?

Was it? R76->M76 was announced long ago but what's about R67?

btw: Wasn't R67 Somogybabod – Kaposfüred announced to be opened by the end of 2019? Is there any info about the estimated opening date?

Roads of 8, 21, 67 etc. will (or already completed) remain Main Roads, with Expressway standard. The speed limit equal to 110 km/h, but free for cars, and roundabouts allowed.

You mean free for cars only? I guess free for anyone is more likely, thats why its no expressway.

Some main roads in Hungary have km based truck tolls, just like on the motorway.

A lot of "normal" roads in Hungary have the triple prohibition sign: no entry for agricultural vehicles, bicycles and vehicles pulled by animals. That sign is sometimes non-officially called as Mercedes sign because it looks similar like the well known symbol of those cars.



None of them are expressways.

A majority of primary roads have those signs, and some secondary roads as well.

If there is no 'expressway' type of R road any more, and all R roads become M instead ...then what happens to those lovely gravel hard shoulders on new schemes???? :)
