The opening of line 3 has been pushed a bit back, and now will be put into operation sometime between January 22 and 24. At any rate it will be open by Chinese New Year.

Now that's exciting. Hope all will work out fine.
Are all lines going to be automatic?

About "plastic..future.." I agree, but it's new so if it would look not like that then.. besides, it will get dirty and all faster than people like to think for sure 😅

Some additional info:

http://www.metro-report.com/news/ne...w/view/second-metro-line-opens-in-harbin.html

CHINA: The first section of Harbin metro Line 3 opened on January 26. The 5·3 km route runs from Yidaeryuan on Line 1 to Changxianglu via Harbin West railway station, serving five stations. Construction of the underground southwestern section started in 2014 as the first phase of what will eventually be a 37·6 km circular route with 32 stations. The southeastern section is due to open in 2020 and the northern part two years later.
Services are provided with a fleet of six-car Type B type trainsets supplied by CRRC Changchun that draw power from a 1·5 kV DC overhead supply.
Line 3 is the second metro line in Harbin. Line 1 opened in September 2013 and Line 2 is under construction between Harbin North railway station to Jinshanlu. Interchanges will be provided at Zhaolin Park and Honqi with Line 3, and at Museum with Line 1. Opening is scheduled in 2020. Two further metro lines are scheduled to open after 2025.

As I said back in the day in the Hangzhou thread,
Too much bashing Chengdu and Dalian has made me to overlook other cities.
... and this one comes with the added injury I wasn't aware of it as it doesn't add new sections, and Harbin won't be opening any new lines or extensions until 2019, when the 3rd phase of line 1 is expected to open. Yes, 3rd phase despite the current line 1 was opened at once, the 1st phase actually was only to Yi-da Eryuan and the rest to Ha-nan Zhan was the 2nd phase, however it was completed at the same time as the 1st. Anyway, the one I won't miss is Gaozeng on Guangzhou's line 3.

So it appears Harbin is revising its metro plans. The original 2003 plan had 5 lines, which was revised to 10 lines in 2009. Now they are looking to build 19 lines, which may look crazy, but considering what we have seen in other cities (and knowing China, of course) it is within reason.

^^

But considering what we have seen in Harbin (a legendarily slow pace of metro construction), it does look crazy.

I'm still surprised the metro isn't fully underground, given Harbin's cold, snowy winters and its scorching summers.

Quite early in the year. It may be the first metro opening on the pig year.
