The Hassi R'Mel integrated solar combined cycle power station is a hybrid power station that is to be built near Hassi R'Mel in Algeria, thought to be the first of its kind. The plant will combine a 25 MW parabolic trough concentrating solar power array, covering an area of over 180,000 m2, in conjunction with a 130 MW combined cycle gas turbine plant, so cutting carbon emissions compared to a traditional power station.[1] The output from the solar array will be used in the steam turbine.

The construction contract was signed on January 5, 2007[1] and the plant is to be developed by New Energy Algeria (NEAL), a joint venture between Sonatrach Sonelgaz and SIM.

vraiment genial ... enfin enfin enfin ils ont compris que si y'avait bien une ressource inepuisable presente a foison, a exploiter d'urgence c'est bien l'energie solaire ... les pays du maghreb ont tout interet a s'y mettre, on a la chance d'avoir un ensoleillement important dasn nos regions.

Abengoa starts commissioning of Hassi R'Mel Hybrid Solar Plant

The Abengoa Group companies, Abener and Teyma, have begun work to connect the "Hassi R'Mel-ISCC" hybrid solar plant being built in Algeria. Located near the largest natural gas field in Africa called Hassi R'Mel, the plant will have an output of 150 MW, 25 MW of which will correspond to solar generation.

Hassi R'Mel-ISCC covers a total area of 150 hectares, consists of two 40-MW gas turbines, an 80-MW steam turbine, two heat recovery steam generators, an air-cooled condenser, and a solar field of 224 parabolic trough collectors arranged in 56 loops. The solar field consists of 600,000 square metres of mirrors.

According to Abengoa, the implementation of the open cycle “is at an advanced stage, having already completed the cold commissioning of the gas turbine, regulation station and gas measurement, high voltage system, compressed air, fire protection and cooling. Meanwhile, progress is being made in implementing the closed cycle, having started the commissioning of the steam turbine, water treatment plant and chemical injection”.
