This thread for the re-development of a site on corner of Renshaw Street and Heathfield Street, which formerly formed part of Rapid Hardware. The plans call for the facade to Renshaw Street to be retained, with the building behind demolished and replaced by a seven storey block, comprising 114 serviced apartments with ground floor commercial space. The original development would have seen an 11 storey block, and the entire site cleared. Pre-planning discussions resulted in a reduction to seven storeys, and the retention of the facade. The developer is YPG, and the architect is Day Architectural.

So that MSCP is what happened when they weighed Metal Mickey in for scrap?

It makes the Victoria street car park look like the Taj Mahal.

Are you hinting that there's a Las Vegas style building program in the pipework?

It's a shame they can't do something really cool and uniform with this building, retaining the facade all the way along, could have been something really iconic with some great views from the upper floors.

It is a shame. The roof extension should span the entire building.
You never know. It totally could end up with bigger extensions all along it. If YPG finish theirs and make money, the owners of the rest will be sitting on a money tree from which they aren't picking fruit.

So lazy. Using a day time photograph for a late evening CGI. And spending longer on the street light than anything else. Still, what is to be built looks ok, despite being shorter than original.
Hilton Garden Inn!? Good one, if true.

Hilton garden Inn for that part of town. Mini game changer if that’s true!!

Surely if they are on the renders there must be some truth in it?
Full construction to commence on Monday 5th March, with a 54 week build to complete on Friday 15th March 2019.

The night CGI is very good. So much better with the original facade. Classic design, shouldn't go to waste. We need to fight against the trashy cheapification of the city

Should be good this. The derelict building is the only thing really holding Renshaw Street back aesthetically, although it's good they're keeping the facade.

Grand Central and Lewis's are great buildings that could be better utilised though.

If they extended this model throughout Rapid it'd really improve the street. Keep those happy that like the facade but hugely increase the economically active square footage to make it actually regenerate the area.

Seems odd only part of the building seems to be planned to get a clean if the owner is the the same for the whole stretch.
The owner isn't the same for the whole stretch.
