This thread is for any of those cool historic Milwaukee photos that we all seem to love that show us what Milwaukee once was. If you have any cool old photos of Milwaukee please post them here.

The old photo looking west down Wisconsin Avenue that Splat8 posted above shows four hotels that no longer exist. Randolf, Towne, Antlers, and Plankinton. I remember all four of these before the demolition took place for the Grand Avenue Mall and the Federal Plaza (Blue Building).

First, thank you VVisconsin for making this thread!

Second, Milwaukee baseball fans should look at these pics as absolute gems. 1953, the year the Boston Braves left Boston and became the Milwaukee Braves, good quality pics of the first year of Milwaukee County Stadium are very rare. Taken by a person attending ball games that first year, including some from the very first opening day! In 1953 this was state of the art, enjoy. :)

There used to be a comic book bazaar every month in one of those, I'm pretty sure it was the Plankinton in 1980 plus or minus. I made a few good purchases at the time.

I know I already posted a picture of the old County Courthouse above, but I thought people might like this one since it gives and idea of how it used to be situated in Cathedral Square. This photo is from around 1935...

And here is one more view of the courthouse and Cathedral Square from a different perspective:

I prefer a lot of these old buildings compared to what is there now. For example, the building across cathedral square from the court house where I think the cathedral square tower is today. And the buildings lining state street look better too.

I have posted these before a long time ago on the main development thread, but since you said you had never seen any other pictures of this building under construction t94 I thought I would post them again. These pictures are all courtesy of the Milwaukee Public Library digital photo collection:

Much like the photos of the US Bank building under construction above I have posted these images from the Milwaukee Public Library image collection before. However with all of the newer posters we have I thought I would post them again just in case people have not seen them. This is a photo of the M&I Bank building under construction:

The Boston Store building under construction downtown:

The Plankinton Arcade under construction:

Wisconsin Tower under construction:
