Hobart Projects Map

20976 Views 43 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  Chuq
Inspired by Eastern37's maps I have created a Google map labelling of the projects proposed/approved/under construction in our little Hobart.

You may find it at this link.
https://mapsengine.google.com/map/edit?mid=zH40XJD0dzao.kRlt3AiWduhU

Those in the know may freely add projects, fix errors, update information or change status.
If adding a new project please try to keep the same format.

There may be some smaller projects I have missed, feel free to add them or just advise in this thread.

Cool! Is this for the CBD only?

Most of the projects are based around the CBD but I don't see why it couldn't include active and noteworthy projects stretching anywhere up either side of the Derwent.:)

Do you have any project in mind?

I was thinking of the cable car - at Cascade Brewery, I'm not going to mark the entire route. Although it is only proposed and not in DA for another few months yet - would it still be appropriate for this map?

Don't see why not. I think when it goes to council then it would be worth marking the entire route and summit centre (assuming there is a single defined route proposal).
Not directly about this projects map but still related to maps of Hobart/Tas;

You guys might have enjoyed the nearmap service to view project locations or aerial your house, of course it's not free nowadays, Google maps is sometimes outdated or bad quality.

Searching around for something better I came across a Tas gov site which has high quality topo/street/bounds map as well as many-many other layers like ocean contours or major power transmission lines or a really neat map of who operates that governement/council/services land... but also in several locations some very nice aerial shots which far outdo Google aerials shots. It is patchy but pretty good.

You can find at this link, you can select a basemap at the top right (ie State aerial/Google aerial/streets), then you can add other interesting layers on top of that (top right again).

Cul - good time to visit Hobart early Spring.

Still pretty cool but usually sunny...

You can check out MONA and the Cascade Brewery in South Hobart too for some contrasting architectual styles and also, of course, Hobart's bustling construction scene....ha!

Great work Chuq.

Me too. Noticed 145 Liverpool Street was missing so added that, and changed a status or two also.

It's great seeing everything on a map like this; makes you realise how much the developments are spread across the city. Great idea.

Just a note, "approved" should be green colour, blue is under construction:cheers:

What do you guys think should be done to completed projects?? IE the Bathurst street carpark. Deleted or change colour or something?
Change completed to black maybe?

Or is it too confusing as we have a few on the go now which will compelte in due course - might be best just to delete the completed ones after say a couple of months?

But, whatever you guys decide is fine by me!
I've just made some updates - black was too hard to see so I changed to orange.

I then changed the background as well because the text on the others was so hard to read anyway!
