First Look at the Thompson Hollywood Hotel Headed For Wilcox

Back in October, Curbed reported that yet another hotel was on its way to Hollywood, on Wilcox just north of Sunset, and today we learn it'll be the Thompson Hollywood Hotel. It'll have at least 220 rooms across 12 floors, with a three-floor subterranean parking garage with space for 125 cars. All the expected amenities are involved: a terrace and a 13,000 square foot restaurant on the ground floor, a pool deck, a fitness center, and 1,400 square feet of meeting rooms on the second floor, and a bar/deck that will share the rooftop with a 1,000-square-foot penthouse lounge, according to an environmental doc just filed with the city.

Like it, some folks prefer this size Hotels, me one of them.
Me too. All in all, Hollywood is getting a nice collection of midsize hotels that don't destroy the human scale of the 'hood. Trendier tourists should create a demand for a bit nicer level of local amenities down at the Wilcox/Cahuenga end.

I MAY NOT GO TO THE 'HOODS,
I JUST SAY THE WORD INSTEAD!

I really like the dark, earthy exterior :)
All area hotels should be like this.

Love the exterior. There are a couple of decent exteriors showing up along Selma (Littlefork, the Dream Hotel) and some OK ones, but this is clearly the best. But not much of Hollywood is going to be this understated.

Btw, does anyone know what's going in at Cherokee and Selma?

That's parking for a church and a school,
as of December 2014. Selma Avenue Elementary,
and Blessed Sacrament Church.

What are you doing down there, Pest?

:colbert: Nope, not all. That would be too gloomy. A mix of glass and this would look nice.

I like Hollywood gloomy!
I also want it to go more Gothic,
or 20s art deco. Nothing bright.
A couple of my favorites as well. But I think it was John Barth who said that to build Chartres today would be just embarrassing, unless it was ironic. As long as we are dominated by the "cult of the new" we're not likely to get any significant examples of historical styles.

John Barthe can suck it!

I'm not asking for a cathedral,
I'm hoping for a little imagination.
And tourists might want to catch
this as well.
It's what they want to see when they come.

True. The House of Parliament were built in a style from 600 years before, but nobody cares. In fact, I would guess most tourists don't know the difference between Gothic and 19th century styles in any event.

But a nice Sagrada Familia would be OK too.
