Maya hotel is a floating hotel to be finished of the coast of Mexico approximately 30km south of Cancun for a price of ca 150 million euros. The technology is coming from the swedish company Oceanic Creations who will carry out the project.
The hotel's floatingcapabilities are enabled by building it with an approriate composite material which is very dense. ten times stronger than steel and 35 times lighter, and according to Oceanic Creations perfectly ecological.
The hotel will be 220 meters long and 70 meters wide, and judging by the renders this means it will have a height of 70m+. The floating building will have an underwater marina and be completely self-sufficient in terms of electricity and water by having an own powerplant generating 30 megawatts and an desalination apparatus with a capacity of desalinating 150 million liters of water per 24 hours. It will hold 350 rooms as well as restaurants, conference halls, a nightclub etc.
According to the designers (Oceanic Creations), becouse of its large size, it would have no problem of withstanding storms. It wont even rock the least in the most severe storms according to Ronny Nordell at Oceanic Creations.
The material used was formerly used by the Swedish Military but after the cold war it was allowed for this private company, which had also applied for admission to use it earlier, during the cold war era but with no result, to aquire a license to use it.
Furthermore, according to Ronny Nordell amongst others interested in their technology are developers from Dubai and Abu Dhabi banana: ), there has also been interest from other parts of America as well as Europe and China.
The project is destined to be finished by 2010-2011 and is shaped as a double mayapyramide floating on pontoon's. The hotel in itself will be 4 meters above sea level. Both the pontoon's and the hotel will be made in the composite material.
