Australian developer acquires more land in Midtown

Caydon Property Group has acquired more land in Midtown for a mixed-use project anchored by a luxury apartment tower.

The Melbourne, Australia-based developerpurchased a 41,000-square-foot site on a half city block bounded by Main, Dennis and Fannin streets. Current Standing Developments — formerly known as PLC Capital Corp. — sold the property to Caydon for an undisclosed amount. The deal closed on Aug. 2.

Caydon plans to develop additional high-end residential, retail and a large parking garage on the site, which sits two blocks north of its luxury apartment project.

Caydon buys more land for Midtown mixed-use project

Australian developer Caydon, now building a high-end residential tower in Midtown, has acquired an adjacent parcel to complete what it says will be a three-block mixed-use development.

The company purchased a 30,000-square-foot property at 2711 Main. The site houses an art supply store, which will relocate in early spring 2019, the developer said Thursday.

"It's a phenomenal accomplishment for Caydon to secure the third parcel which brings us one step closer to delivering an exciting mixed-use district in one of Houston's most lively neighborhoods," Caydon principal Joe Russo said in a statement. "Caydon takes pride in creating developments that encourages a sense of community and supports people's health, happiness and a desire for a convenient lifestyle."

By late 2019, the developer will break ground on its mixed-use project that, along with the residential high-rise, will span about three city blocks when complete.

The Australian developer is eyeing the Museum District, Montrose and Midtown for future projects.

This will rise in Midtown, an area made up mostly of low-rise/mid-rise structures but a skyline is now forming with two high-rises currently under construction. It'll help connect Midtown to Downtown, and hopefully someday soon Midtown ties in with the Museum District and TMC. :)
