Great pictures, but why does downtown Houston look so deteriorating and boring?
I agree.Great pictures, but why does downtown Houston look so deteriorating and boring?
I agree. I always look at threads of Houston, look on Google Earth and the Panoramio photos on there of different areas of the city, yet I can't find it in my heart to like it. It just strikes me as overly clinical (but very pretty) in some areas, road dominated in others and run down in the rest.Great pictures, but why does downtown Houston look so deteriorating and boring?

Do you guys think the newer, modern glass buildings look boring and deteriorated too?I agree. Great shots LSyd, pity about what you had to work with!
Read what I said again. I find the city falls into those three camps detailed by myself:Do you guys think the newer, modern glass buildings look boring and deteriorated too?
Nope, never did say that those buildings were boring smartie boy.Do you guys think the newer, modern glass buildings look boring and deteriorated too?
thankfully, we've avoided the ever annoying "i don't like american cities" moron. :cheers:Theres nothing really special about it. But i like the collection of buildings.
actually, i thought the streets were lively, especially late at night. however, i was out to enjoy the town that late, not take pics.andrewville said:I was talking about the streets and livelihood of downtown. It's quiet, and a lot of the buildings are run down as you can see in the pictures.
I agree the skyline does look good as a cluster, there aren't many better in the world simply due to the topography and photo opportunities. The comparitively flat landscape assists Houston in the same way it assists a city rather closer to me as it is easy to take a great picture of the Melbourne skyline because it is so flat out North!svart, one of the things i like about Houston (and Dallas, and Atlanta) is how on one block you do find overly clinical archticture; you go another block or two and you find "grit," or something totally different (what you refer to as "run-down.") i really like that variety. plus there skyline's great. Houston really needs the 2nd light rail line to be built.
That second balcony railing is falling off!

Downtown Houston is dead because Houston is a suburb with skyscrapers and not a city.
Want to see crowds there? Go to a barbeque or a megachurch.
Houston can be a lot of fun. Depends where you go. Montrose is fun especially if you are a pickle kisser like myself.
For a city the size of Houston its rather pathetic that downtown is a ghost town.
1. I agree that there are plenty of idiots who bash every American city for that fact without looking at it's qualities, but you don't sound so great by addressing him that way.1. thankfully, we've avoided the ever annoying "i don't like american cities" moron.

well, you should go visit...at least stop by on your way to Galveston if you haven't been there.1. I agree that there are plenty of idiots who bash every American city for that fact without looking at it's qualities, but you don't sound so great by addressing him that way.
2. Thanks for the info. I've never been to Houston and unfortunately have never heard great things about it. It does have a wonderful skyline, but the downtown, judging from pictures seems to be very quiet without a lot going on.
