Hey, Big Ten fans, how "midwestern" would you like to see the Big Ten to be? How do you view that whole issue of conference expansion:

• Do you respect Penn State, but still don't accept it, still viewing it as an eastern school that doesn't belong in a midwestern conference?

• Are you dying to see Notre Dame, with all its traditions and smack in the heart of the midwest, a part of the conference?

• Would you really like to see the clock turned backward, mission impossible to take place, with the Univ of Chicago rejoining the league? (knowing it could not take place, but dreaming anyway)

I would love to see Notre Dame be in the conference! Plus, that would give Indiana 3 Big Ten Schools!

Boot Penn State to the rest of the New Englander leagues, Notre Dame is in the league of their own and University of Chicago??? who cares. Drop Indiana since they don't know how to punt a ball except shoot a ball like um.....basketball?!

Put University of Toledo, Miami University (Ohio) & Marshall in the Big Ten--they would put a lot of competitive edge into the conference.

U of Chicago is part of the Big Ten. They just dont participate in athletics.
The U of C is part of the CIC, an academic consortium of all Big Ten schools and the U of C.

The U of C has no connection to the conference itself, other than prior membership.

You have got to be kidding that Toledo, Miami and Marshall are more worthy of Big Ten membership than IU is!!!!!!!!!!

As for what you said about Penn State, Notre Dame, and Chicago, I'd love to see it (and know I never will). The Big Ten becomes the Big Dozen with:

CHICAGO
ILLINOIS
INDIANA
IOWA
MICHIGAN
MICHIGAN STATE
MINNESOTA
NORTHWESTERN
NOTRE DAME
OHIO STATE
PURDUE
WISCONSIN

Can you imagine a more high profile, academically stellar, athletically great, regionally based conference anywhere. Even if the U of C were to be the bottom of the football barrel (and made the Hoosiers look like a football power), the prestige of the university, added to the athletic and academic prestige of ND would be incredible).

Can you imagine a stronger regional group of 12 incredibly great universities, everyone of them an academic powerhouse????

Rumor has it that the new AD at Syracuse University is looking to exit the Big East Conference and is researching if Syracuse can get into the Big 10 Conference. Rumor is that the Big 10 is thinking about it because the rivalry between Penn State and Syracuse University can be renewed.

BTW, for those who don't know, Syracuse University Football is doing a total make over for next season, new fieldturf, new uniforms, new coach, new staff, new play book. The only things not changing are the old players and the mascot. All these changes has landed Syracuse a few good recruits and fans are starting to buy season tickets again after 5 years of declining sales.

Sickening. That's worse than BC joining the ACC. **** Penn State, give us Notre Dame.

I'm with you, Naptown. The Big Ten=the Middle West. And few states are as midwestern as Indiana. So, by all means, let's let in Notre Dame into the conference....and if they ever decide to get a football team down in Bloomington, let's let IU in, also!
