Thanks for posting this. Good read - Bad building
Good read, but what a bunch of bullsh**. I mean, doesn't anyone other than skyscraper fans hate the Freedom Tower?
People are idiots.

Don't know if anyone else caught it, but there was an article about 40 Bryant Park about two months ago in Popular Science.
It was a pretty good read too, talking about how 'green' the skyscraper would be. Anyone else see it?

I think most ppl could care less, and I don't mean that in a bad way, they just don't notice it like we do..Out of sight, out of mind type deal..
But I do know of two states that have ppl who are not necessarily devoted to the cause as we are, but they still share an emotional tie of some sort.. Obviously being NY and NJ .. Think about the millions of ppl that have lived within sight of the twins over the last two decades.. the visual bond alone had to have been powerful.. skyscraper fanatic, or not...

I think it was just a matter of too little, too late...
In my mind, I could never imagine anything but the Towers being there... and I'm sure many others felt the same way..
I think so many of us who were still so deeply involved with the emotional aspect of the tragedy were some what caught off-guard.. and like I mentioned earlier, I could not, or at least had not dealt with the idea of anything but the twins being rebuilt... In my mind it was a perfect, and fitting oppourtunity to re-build an updated version of the two.. and I also feel the message it would've sent was right on point... just like a anthill.. Kick it over, and its built back twice as tall.. In my eyes, anything but the twins being rebuilt sends a message of defeat.. to some degree anyway..

I think things would've turned out differently if the demand to rebuild would've been sooner, and stronger.
I realize this would'nt guarantee anything, but it would've given the public a better chance at being involved in some fashion..

You wanna know what bothers me most about the FT?
Architecture aside, its the fact that its only one tower..
Even though I don't care for the design itself, I would still rather see two of them.. yeah, I know.. two of those?
I can't quite explain why a 2nd tower is so important to me, but I think you feel where I'm comin' from..

About a year ago I had a maintenance worker in my place that commented on the large mural of the twins on my wall..
He asked me if they were going to rebuild them.. When I showed him the FT his only words were "just one?"

sorry dood...the freedom tower's so pathetic already, them terror lunatics won't even waste a bomb on it. if they really want to hurt nyc's skyline any farther, there's really no need to; pataki has already done the job for them...

besides, they can implement all these safety precautions on a new set of twin replicas with no problems at all.
No need to apologize brother.. I agree..
you can't just rebuild the twin towers... it wouldn't be right, just rebuild them the same as if nothing happened... throw the memories of those who were lost that day away as if they never died?

that isn't the right way to go, not that the freedom tower is, but rebuilding as if nothing happened isn't.... as for implimenting new safety standards, they would have to entirely redesign the structure of the twin towers... there is no way they could use open web joists again, which would then mean added weight, which would then mean more structure, which means more weight, and you can see where this is going....

I completely agree. As much as I want those towers back, we can't and shouldent...god I really dont want to feel that way.

Why can't everyone understand this? I see it to be the absolute truth.

btw. I have faith that the freedom tower WILL be cool. Renderings never do any justice. Imagine that building in lower manhattan right now!

That's the point of it being on alternate footprints with two 207sq foot memorials.

You're in denial, sorry.

Who said they should?

All we're after is a better representation of what was...

Sorry, I wasn't really looking to bash his opinion - I'm just trying to be realistic.
I hope the Freedom Tower turns out great, but I know its gonna be shit like in the renderings.
Proably even worse with the cores sticking out like chimneys.
ohh this was what i was talking about before. pity i don't have a scanner..

btw dont u think those renderings (in the first page of the article) are HORRIBLE?
The Sears tower is taller than the freedom tower, the spire cheated. Its only a 1100 ft tower.

For this terror proof skyscraper, I would recommened not to build it, its not worth $1.2 billion and be destroyed within a week(sarcastic)

The spire is the reason it'll be taller, true - you also forgot to mention the 400 foot (or whatever) bird cage on top.
I was gonna say twin antenna but I didnt know what exactly that "bird cage" is called?

I dissagree. There are elvators leading to a floor higher than sears with an official roof that is higher. As for the near 1200' tower that is within a short cry of sears's height, the extra cores, steel and energy producers will push this building past the sears. The lattice is not just lattice, If there are 2 large cores with elevator shafts with a floor higher than sears, it's a no brainer which tower is taller. It's a unique building, that's why people don't like it, as the top could be depicted asd ugly, I think it's unique. It will be insanly tall, each bracing and truss acting as a floor, access to the generators above at least 1150 feet of occupied area! Along with many other large scale buildings. I will give larry the benifit of the doubt. He has his 1150 or so feet of tower space, now child's get's to design the rest. Child's has designed towers like, the Times warner center and Bear Sterns and 7WTC. Freedom Tower will look fine in many's eyes. It will look far taller than you can ever imgine from the street. as wide as a football feild at the base and as tall as 2 chrysler buildings on top of eachother!

And PLEASE don't make refrences to the tower being destroyed, we don't even want to imagine that one, we don't want to imagine fire in the sky, bodies falling from the tower or ANYTHING of the sort, I'm sory but making jokes about FT's destruction really angers me!

"It's a 50-story building that looks like it's 120 stories. It's a skeleton. I think it is not an appropriate design." - Donald Trump

The bullshits gonna be most apparent when the buildings only 2/3 orange at sunset
