The new Hyatt Place Hotel is starting construction. Per Ratio Architects website...

This mixed-use development includes a 15-story, 310-key dual branded hotel and retail space, an eight-story parking garage with 382 spaces and ground floor retail, and a complete restoration of the adjacent deteriorating Holland & Ostemeyer building. The development includes space for several restaurants and retail stores, a two-story hotel lobby, retail or commercial office space in the restored historic building and a 15-floor amenity deck with an open-air terrace and indoor pool.

I really hope this is built. It will do a great job filling in that area.

Edit: Wait, this is under construction?

A permit has been issued for partial demo (rear portion) of the Omega Building next to Mo's. Construction permits for the hotel and parking garage are under review.

There is definitely dirt and movement at the site.. and a smaller hole towards the back center of the lot.. I wish the building would forgo the gray color in the rendering and continue to wrap the (brown) terra-cotta skin around the building..
Those views are about to be ruined
No, you'll just have to be inside the Hyatt to get them.

I agree with the view being ruined but let's be honest what view did they really have? A parking lot and Bankers Life? I do feel bad for them though, whomever created those lofts should never have done so for this very reason...the inevitable development of that parking lot.
That might be why they never converted them to condos.
Well - they've been there for almost 30 years - so at least they got many years of good use. I believe there will be a bit of space - maybe 15 - 20 feet - so there will be some light and space.
^^ And that area is getting a bit more interesting and populated with some of the planned new development going in soon. Along with the couple of hundred new hotel rooms w first and second floor commercial and retail / restaurants, there is also the plan to convert the former Catholic gift store building at 117 S Meridian along with the building to the north (111 S Meridian) and the parking lot in between - into a new 6 story residential project. Also, across the street is the planned new "Burn" cigar bar. Also - maybe the new Cambria Hotel (around 300 rooms) may also go in a block further south along Meridian along the west side of the street. CityWay II is also a block and a half to three blocks away to the east - and it will be adding another 350 - 400 new apartments along with more first floor commercial.

A parking lot and Bankers Life?
As a huge Pacers fan, I would not mind this view.
Although it probably sucks for the residents who live on the eastern edge of Harness Factory Lofts, if you currently have any type of view and there is a parking lot next to you, count on it being developed and losing the view eventually. Is anyone else surprised that the CSX building still hasn't been converted into retail and residential?

No. Railroads never sell.
The tower crane is being assembled today.

Ultimately, there will end up being two
Poured part of the 2nd floor today. Light speed compared to Market 360.
Yes - - it is moving along pretty quickly. I like the way it fills in that big NW corner of Penn and Georgia. With some new streetfront commercial spots going in along Penn and Georgia, it will very nicely extend the Georgia Street pedestrian corridor all the way down to Bankers Life. It will be great to have that improved, direct cross-street connectivity in place to help make it all the easier for the many thousands of people at various Bankers Life events to spill out of the Fieldhouse and quickly fill up all of the nearby places on Georgia and S. Meridian Streets. Additionally (and I don't know if this is going to happen or not) it would be great if the alley running from Pennsylvania to Meridian in the middle of the block could be upgraded to make it a better pedestrian corridor to be a direct connection from the main entrance to Bamker's Life to the middle of the Circle Centre block, one block away.
