Passengers advised to arrive early for departures at RGIA
Hyderabad: Following high alert in the run up to Republic Day, the security preparedness at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Shamshabad has been stepped up.

“We are advising passengers to arrive early at the airport to avoid the last minute rush at the security check areas,” said an airport official. In order to complete necessary formalities in time, it is recommended that domestic passengers reach the airport at least two hours prior to the time of departure and passengers who opt for web check-in are advised to report 90 minutes prior to their departure.

At the same time, to cater to the growing passenger numbers, the airport has also taken up various proactive measures to streamline passenger processing. The number of X-ray machines and security check lanes for domestic passengers has been increased by 40 per cent recently to serve more passengers effectively.

Departure ramp is being widened to cater to more vehicles during peak hours.
Self-baggage drop facility has been initiated as a pilot project, empowering the passengers to submit their check-in bags themselves without queuing up at the check-in counters, the official added.
Can someone who have been to this airport recently confirm above highlighted developments?

I recently boarded International flight on 14th Jan. Although there were 4 X-ray machines and 4 security lanes, I could just see only two X-ray machines & two security lanes (one for male and other for female) functional on that day. I had to wait more than one hour to pass through them. When I asked officer in charge, he told that people have taken leave for Sankranthi festival and they were facing shortage of staff to run them.

As far as Domestic flight is concerned, I boarded one on 2nd Jan, there were big queues as usual and I didn't find any increase in security lanes or X-ray machines.

After being fed up of paying SQ fares on MI flights from SIN, i wrote to AI to consider starting flights from HYD to SIN, and I was pleasantly surprised when the SIN manager wrote back to me saying he would forward it to the planning dept and it was a quick email.

I must say i wrote it out of frustration and impressed with swift reply from AI team. Kudos.

Haha I know for sure that direct traffic is less but not sure with the recent developments of Amaravati its going to change any traffic.

well, just a simple email from AI looks like they are starting to listen to what we have to say ,and I dont think its particularly viable for AI in the long run, although for 6E once they have their jumbo orders might make it an interesting thought.

Thanks Ron7. Hopefully GMR wakes up from its slumber and begin expansion work ASAP.

The issue is not with GMR, IMO. It is the CISF, which is in charge of security of the airport (and is neither answerable to the private airport operator nor AAI), that usually cites a shortage of staff and does not operate all the X-ray machines and security check lanes that are provided to them by the airport operator (in this case GMR).

But this more to do with expansion of the airport .. additional terminal, which is planning stage from ages. Now that it's crossed it's capcitu of 12 million .. we are running late on this

Traffic Police Prepaid Taxi Counter Fare Chart at HYD airport

Hello,
Does anyone have the fare chart which is displayed at counter of prepaid taxi counter run by the traffic police?

One of my relative will take 6E-263 from COK landing by 10.35PM at HYD and wanted to rely on this pre-paid counter (to avoid high fare from Meru/Sky cabs).

So wanted to be prepared if I have this fare chart.

I have taken domestic flights Indigo from HYD on 14 th Jan, AI on 22 nd JAN, they have changed the direction of the Security check counters. Yes they increased check in counters but not all working all the time. If there are more people they are opening other check in counters. But process got slowed down a little bit as checking process became little strict due to 26 th Jan.

Oman Air increases weekly capacity to India

Oman Air is growing its capacity to India whereby it will increase its weekly frequencies from 126 to 161 flights per week between Oman and its 11 destinations in India. The growth in capacity follows the recently signed agreement between the Governments of Oman and India, where both sides agreed to increase the weekly seats.
Effective February onwards, Bombay, Delhi, Calicut and Hyderabad will be operated with 21 weekly flights each, and Lucknow with 14 weekly flights. With this development, Oman Air is flying its multi award winning wide bodied aircraft to select Indian destinations.
Chief executive officer of Oman Air, Paul Gregorowitsch, said: “India is a key destination for Oman Air and we are delighted to be offering thousands more guests the opportunity to travel between Oman and India (and beyond). The demand for all 11 of our Indian destinations has always been high and the increased frequencies offer yet more choice and convenience to our guests. Oman Air first launched flights to India in the 1990s and the demand for seats has grown exponentially amongst both business and leisure travellers, not only increasing tourism traffic and revenue but also promoting vital trade agreements between the two countries. The extended traffic entitlements will give a further boost to the tourism sector, prompting many discerning tourists to visit magnificent Oman as well as India’s beautiful touristic spots. The bilateral trade and investment opportunities between the two countries are even further encouraged.
“I would like to thank the Public Authority of Civil Aviation in Oman and the Indian Government for being so receptive to our proposals as well as our trade partners, travel agencies and sales agents who have all been incredibly supportive and contributed to this growing demand. They have fully endorsed our award winning product and our unique onboard service and hospitality, which help to differentiate Oman Air from the competition.”

WOW we are going great! Looks like we're gonna have to take both MAA and CCU at once. May be in the 3rd or 4th quarters.

KLM and Luftansa have Hyderabad on their radar, as per their news in 2015 - 2016.
But its really hard for them to capture Hyderabad.
reason1: Emirates
(new)reason2: Trump uncle.
Airlines work on a financial model and yield. Did you make the same accusation when Obama was the President or it is sudden realization? Presidentys don't run airlines, feasibility does. Next I may hear Modi too! Oh wait! That's in vogue
