Just been reading the last 3 pages of the City Bashing Thread, so here it is everyone, the City Love-In thread, somewhere where we can say something nice about another city rather than bitching about it :)

Ill start, is it me or is Bristol Stunning?

Liverpool Museum's more interesting to watch under construction than the gherkin was on these forums. Might change my name!
The canals make that museum IMHO
Bristol looks lovely yeah, the clifton suspension bridge look spectacular :eek:kay:

Need to go and see Glasgow in the flesh again sometime soon too, looks awesome. Its weird as I'm half Scottish and I haven't been since i was a kid back in the 70s!
It was funny how one or two peoples comments can unite different people, from different cities, with normally very different views and probably different cultures, social and economic backgrounds. :eek:kay: :cheers1:
Birmingham has lovely concrete blocks. Liverpool has lovely derelict buildings. Leeds has lovely grass fields. Newcastle has lovely beer bellies. London has a lovely big brown river full of dead bodies. Sheffiled makes lovely cutlery. Portsmouth has lovely sailor boys. Glasgow has lovely hooligans. Middlesborough has lovely chemical plants.(and residents with one eye) Manchester has..........
There's always one spoilsport huh JRB? ;) I'll bite..

Manchester has a lovely scouse-scraper Beetham tower. I like how it dominates the skyline, casting its shadow over the whole city, and rather like the monolith from 2001, the ape-like mancunians gather at its base, inquisitively probing it with their fingers, trying to get the scouseness to rub off on to them! :tongue2:

Serious head on though, the CJC is superb.

Only messing about as per usual Yoshef.

Might pop over to the Pool next week. Off for a week. Is it safe to open my mouth and talk in my Mancunian accent or should I just make monkey noises and wave my hairy monkey arms about?

It's not bad is it. When did you see it in the flesh?

 Well as long as you leave the bones at home.

Ive seen the CJC a couple of times now, first time I saw it was on the way to the MEN at dusk, last year I think it was, to watch Cirque de So..sillyness or whatever its called. The CJC was all lit up, and it was a bit of a "woah what the hell is that!" moment, it was jaw droppingly good and I didn't know it existed at the time. I've seen it more recently in full daylight and it was just as impressive.
So I was using Manchester's airport in June, and I was really impressed with the city. Especially the river/canal areas, very pretty:happy:
I went to Edinburgh at the weekend... lovely city, seemed really friendly and pleasant and had some lovely buildings, especially pubs!
Hope the weather was good for you;) Favourite part of the city?

The second best thing in Greater Manchester, the airport. After the M62 eastbound obviously!! :tongue2:
Manchester, my favourite target, has a decent university (my grandfather studied history there) and I love curry mile in Rusholme.
I think the Curry Mile is really tacky and shabby. You don't exactly get drawn to any of the takeaways on the Curry Mile. It's just a mile of greasy cheap takeaways that make you feel sick! Although some bars break it up here and there; but like Bah Bar at Fallowfields are rather expensive- not to mention the £2 each way night buses that run to and from Piccadilly. I like Manchester City Centre though.
I'd like to hear your opinions on all British cities Langur, you make interesting criticisms:)

(maybe not all of them, since there are quite a few;))
^ Thanks Indiekid. I haven't been to all British cities. I think London is in many ways the greatest city in the world and, having seen all of its potential rivals in other countries and continents, I remain unshaken in that view. The only thing it lacks, for now, is an inspiring skyline, though even there I sometimes rethink that when viewing the city from Waterloo Bridge, Greenwich Park, Primrose Hill (by night), the London Eye, or the Golden Gallery of St Paul's. I like Liverpool for its buildings and history though it did feel empty and rundown when I was last there. I remember very little of Cardiff. I love Edinburgh, Bath, Bristol, Durham, Canterbury, Oxford, and Cambridge for their beautiful architecture. The two ancient university towns were particularly inspiring. I like York but find its centrepiece, York Minster, somewhat clumsy compared to other gothic cathedrals (especially the too-fat central tower). Newcastle is exceptionally friendly and the bridges over the Tyne are impressive. Other than that I remember little. Though I've passed through Glasgow several times en route to the Highlands, I've yet to explore the city. The little I have seen, Buchanan Street for instance, impressed me with the grandeur of its architecture. I have only seen a little of Leeds. It seemed to have a small centre but the main street was very handsome. In general however the city doesn't appeal, and I've never seen an image of Leeds that capured my imagination. I loathed Portsmouth for its concrete ugliness. I dislike Brighton for its overinflated opinion of itself. Birmingham's pleasant enough though a little bland. There isn't a great deal to see for the casual tourist but, on the other had, it wasn't offensive either. My impressions of Manchester are generally negative. I also have a strong dislike for many Mancunian attitudes encountered on these forums and in the city itself. They overrate their city to an almost comic degree and seem to think the world owes them a living. However I did like the Curry Mile. I was taken there by student friends and we had a great curry there for a very reasonable price. I enjoyed the tacky Christmas lights come "baby Vegas" look of the street at night too. I remember it as a really fun evening.

Central Leeds is the same size as any City Centre. But you're unlikely to see all of it in one trip because Leeds is divided into really quite strict quarters. Most people visiting Leeds will only see the retail core, which isn't even a quarter of the whole city centre. I bet hardly anyone sees the financial quarter, civic and northern quarters, Quarry Hill, riverside, HUV etc.
Is it safe to open my mouth and talk in my Mancunian accent or should I just make monkey noises and wave my hairy monkey arms about?
I fail to see the difference, myself. Is it down to fine phonetics? :(

I like Glasgow most of all. It's how I want Liverpool to be, in the main.
Thank you Langur:)

I think London's skyline is very impressive, not the largest, but certainly one of the most distinctive. The City of London is perfect as it is, which is why I think any more iconic towers would just clutter it. London's riverside is quite beautiful, especially with the rows of trees running alongside it. Glasgow should take note as it regenerates the River Clyde. I agree that Mancs come across as it bit cocky sometimes, but from I've seen the city looked nice:) I loved the differences of the Victorian architecture compared to up here.
