Agodi Gardens is situated in Ibadan, Oyo Province in Nigeria. Ibadan is the third largest city by population in Nigeria and also the third largest city geographically in Africa. Ibadan literary means between the savannah and the forest and it is on this interesting cusp between the biomes that the park is located. Agodi Gardens contains an indigenous forest, zoo, a lake and tree plantations.
Earthworks Landscape Architects is the lead consultant on the project with Engineers and Architects from Nigeria and South Africa on the team.

The garden is situated near the center of the sprawling Ibadan metropolis, near Oyo State Secretariat Complex. The park is surrounded by the bustling and sprawling metropolitan area, it stands out as a green lung in the surrounding urban landscape with great recreational potential.

About Project

Our brief is to revive the park from its current dilapidated state and to construct the program, which includes a waterpark with slides and swimming pools, restaurants, an events hall, open areas for picnicking and reconstructing the zoo. Our concept is based on maximizing the contrast between the forest and savannah biomes and not cluttering the site with exotic aesthetic planting.

The project encourages full local content participation and aims to engage a workforce of approximately 300 local Ibadan people per month. Not only is the a source of income for the indigenes of Oyo state but also allows a form of skills acquisition.

The developer AM&SEA is a Nigerian Company with South African and UK partners in construction, engineering and landscape architectural services. A company with a wide range of experience across a broad range of construction and property development projects. A strategic alliance with Earthworks landscape architects helped sharpen its focus in the area of designing outdoor spaces in a way that is sensitive and strives to integrate the needs of human development and the natural environment.

Will it be a bit like the "international Institute for Tropical Agriculture, IITA, Ibadan"
Or is it purely for leisure?
Nice to see parks coming up. We destroyed the botanical garden in calabar

Nice to see such developments happening in Nigeria. We need more nature projects. This will be nice for the people in the Lagos, Ogun, Oyo state area, when they want to have a nice getaway.

I just hope they searched the forest, with everything they are finding in these Yoruba land forest these days.

Now that's funny lol. They really need to do so before tourists start finding limbs in there.

@naijaborn I think it will be open to the public but with an entrance fee. Since it is going to have hotel rooms, a spa, a pomenade and an event center, I can't for the life of me imagine it being open to all-comers.

The first phase is supposed to be open before the end of this month. It will be interesting to see how well it does and how it is managed. This will be a good barometer for many things e.g tourism potential, spending power of residents, growth potential for the state etc. If this is successful, I can see many more of such investments coming into the state. I'm huge on IB as one of the next frontiers within Nigeria after Lagos. This will be a yardstick to see if it really is.

This is awesome, I will certainly add this to my growing list of places to visit when next in Naija. Especially seeing that the madness in the north will prevent visits to Yankari.

All this development will certainly need an entrance fee to pay back the funds put into the park redevelopment.

So green and nice :)

I was looking at this thread on NL about some place in Enugu, I think, and the op posted a pic of this nice lake with a small hill overlooking it. It was really nice. And someone posted: "Hey they should get rid of all that grass because we can't maintain it Nigeria because there is no sprinkler system" or something to that effect :dead:

Must we bury everything in concrete :(
Lagos, i think should have someting of this size and quality, especially behind the old CBD- Some clearing would be needed.!!!!
Hey Tbite, is the garden now open?
