I'm Moving to Hong Kong: 92 photos

I've been away for awhile. It's for good reason, I promise! First, in late February, my girlfriend and I took the train to New York, where we stayed with some family friends for a few days. Then we flew to Hong Kong, where we stayed until the first week of April, with a couple of weekends spent in Bangkok and Shanghai.

While we were there I got news that I had been accepted into grad school at the University of Hong Kong, which means that, in the middle of this summer, we will be relocating halfway around the world to HK. We won't be staying there permanently --- I long ago decided that Montreal is my home, and I eventually plan to return --- but we'll probably be overseas for at least a couple of years. We'll see.

So consider these photos as an introduction to Hong Kong. (Don't worry, I still have lots of Montreal photos to post before I leave at the end of July.) These were taken during the first two weeks of March. To see more, check out my Flickr page:

This should be the official Hong Kong City Life thread... you've captured exactly that. Art in motion! This should be a permanent sticky.

Great to hear that you're going to HKU. I also worked there recently for four months. Great environment, scenery and the historical sections of the campus are gorgeous.
If you're interested, here's my photothread of photos taken while I was working there: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=521713

I really hope that you can continue to find time in your schedule to continue to do some shooting from HK since you'll be there for a while.
Can't wait to see your continuous stream of HK photos. We need the Montreal photography perspective on HK!
Thanks! Skybean, those are nice photos. The HKU campus is gorgeous and I'm looking forward to spending my days there.
I've never seen Hong Kong photos like this!!

Awesome! Merci
Good for you CD! Congratulations. You lead a fascinating life and I kind of saw this coming. Your ties to Vancouver via miss L were kind of a stepping stone to China. Funny how your two homes are island cities built around a mountain.

Living in Hong Kong will enable you to see so many other cities. I am looking forward to your delicious vignettes. I love the mood of the first photo especially.
Yes, Shanghai, Taipei, and even Bangkok are now within weekend getaway range. :)
man , you run into sex zone. lol. is 250 HKD or usd?
Ups and downs, highs and lows! The essence of a great city, really good photos! 10x
I think i have seen SO MUCH of Hong Kong since i was young that i could instantly recognise most of the places in the photos (thanks to all the Hong Kong TVB series, haha!) but the nearest i have ever been to Hong Kong was at the airport! I'm looking forward to visiting Hong Kong one day, i have cousins who live there.

Russian girls 550, more than twice the rate for China girls!

Excelent photos!
These pictures belong to the very best I've ever seen! I can't find words to describe how impressed I am...you can almost feel, smell and hear this city through those photos.
fantastic !
Terrific, loved all the details.
Canada's loss will be Hong Kong's gain, Kilgore! But at least you will be coming back some day! A wonderful opportunity for you, and I hope you love every minute of it... Congratulations!
I have never been to HK, but this pictures you shared with us made me feel as if I was in the streets of Hong Kong in person.

Now I feel the urge to fly there. ;)
