HOK Sport designed something that would be used as the main stadium for the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon. It would have a 70000 capacity during the Games and be reduced to 30,000 thereafter.

However, the stadium that was supposed to have the role that this new stadium is intended for is Munhak Stadium.

The new stadium looks like all seats are permanent and if that stadium is built in Incheon, it will be a white elephant even at its reduced capacity. I wish the stadium were built in some other city. Do you like this stadium or not? I do, but Please do not build this stadium in Incheon. Let the Munhak Stadium be the main stadium for the 2014 Asian Summer Games.

well, that's really weird to build a 70k seater in a city where already is a 50k stadium. and you also have an athletic stadium in Daegu for more than 65k. isn't this one good enough for the games? madness and waste of money.

This stadium and its design should be traded to Manila in the Philippines.

INCHEON - 2014 Asian Games Stadium - 70,000

(to be completed in mid 2013)

Below images are 2014 Incheon Asian Games Stadium.

The competition-winning design of the main stadium for the 17th Asian games in Incheon, in South Korea, illustrates a new level of sustainable design in stadia in Asia.
This Stadium accommodates 70,000 seats and may be expandable to 100,000 seats considering big events such as Olympic Games and World Cup.
After big events , It will reduce down to a single sided grandstand for 30,000 afterward as a People’s Park for the city of Incheon.

The global architecture firm, Populous, formerly HOK Sport Venue Event, is designing Incheon stadium with local firm Heerim Architects and Planners.

For a city with only 2.7 mil, Incheon has too many "large-sized" stadiums.

1. Incheon Munhak Stadium (50,256)

2. Incheon Baseball Stadium (30,480)

3. Seungui Arena Park (Football-Specific stadium, 20,030) - Currently under-contruction; about 30% completed

I hoped that the new stadium would be cancelled, but they instead had to go ahead with this project anyway. Why dodn't they just trade the proposal to Bangkok? If a Soccer World Cup comes to South Korea, Incheon would have to choose between the Munhak Stadium and the new white elephant stadium.

Stadium for the 2022 World Cup opening ceremony

The Bidding Committee for the 2022 World Cup held a general meeting on March 4, 2010 at the Chosun Hotel and officially announced the list of host cities that will be included in Korea's 2022 World Cup bid.

At the meeting it was decided that the Incheon Asian Games Stadium would be the host stadium for the 2022 World Cup opening ceremony.

The seating capacity of Incheon Asian Games Stadium will be expanded to 80,000 from 70,000.

^^If this stadium hosts the opening game of a World Cup in South Korea, then Seoul's upgraded Olympic Stadium (which was not used in the previous would cup held in Korea republic) should host the final. How about the capacity remains at 70,000 instead of being expanded because if it si expanded, it's still gonna be a white elephant.

This stadium still sucks though.

How are they supposed to reduce a big stadium's seating capacity from 70 000 to 30 000?

What do they mean by "single-sided grandstand"?

Are they going to deconstruct one side of the stadium? Or are they going to downsize all sides of the stadium to a single tier?

How are they supposed to achieve this reduction in capacity?

Look carefully.
On one picture. On the right side, you have the main stand. On the left side, you have a "green wall" or "green stand" or "nature stand" (i apoligize not for speaking good english).
Si in closing one stand, they can reduce the capicity to 30 000.
