Before the Monon Trail - Fairtrain '83

In 1983, when the tracks were still in service, Indiana Transportation Museum, at Noblesville, operated trains between Carmel and the State Fair Grounds during the Indiana State Fair over the route that is now Indy Greenways' Monon Trail. The train had an F7A Diesel locomotive on each end so that it could travel in either direction without turning around or backing up. I liked the paint job.

I can't believe that the train used to run as recently as the 80's. Reminds me of the train that still circles downtown Kenosha. Have you seen that yet?
Those pictures must have been taken just a few years before they took the tracks up. For the out of towners, it is now the Monon Trail, which runs for about 16 miles from a mile NE of downtown Indy straight through the north side of Indiapolis through prime Indianapolis neighborhoods like Meridian-Kessler, Broad Ripple, Nora and Carmel. It could have made a very ideal commuter rail or light rail corridor, but that is pretty unlikely now because of the extreme popularity of the Trail. Anybody have any current pictures of the Monon trail to post?

Are you referring to the Kenosha Streetcar? I've heard about it, but I haven't been there yet to check it out.

Just a few, pretty limited in scope. I took them in 2002, when I rode the trail from 38th Street to Carmel.
