the Indianapolis german house was the center of the German community in Indianapolis during the 19th and 20th century.
Later on, the structure became less active, and was planned for demolition in the 1970s. A group of historic preservationist worked together to save it.
It is today a very active building always packed, it now holds the rathskellar(a popular restruant) a YMCA, the American caberat theatre, and many more things. It is designed in the german renniasance revival style, built in the late 19th century. Originally named the Das Deutch haus, it was changed to Athenuem in world war I do to anti-german activists, but today its german history is very much respected and appreciated. This structure marks the German influence over the city, today the city is %20 german decent.
