Iraq asks U.N. for help to build new nuclear power reactor

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Iraq asked on Saturday for assistance in building a nuclear power reactor for peaceful purposes, more than 25 years after the destruction of the reactors it had under Saddam Hussein.

“Iraq calls for assistance from our kindred nuclear countries to build a nuclear reactor for peaceful purposes ... in accordance with the non-proliferation treaty,” Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafar told the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Iraq had three nuclear reactors in Tuwaitha, its main nuclear research site, south of Baghdad. One was destroyed by an Israeli air raid, in 1981, and the two others by U.S. airplanes in the 1991 Gulf war which followed Iraq’s 1990 invasion of Kuwait.

Guess we'll have to be careful of the fascist and apartheid shit state Israel if this happens.

You sound so charming and civilized.

Can't blame him when that state happened to blow up the nuclear reactor

Point out the errors in my post and contribute or shut up :)
If Israel hadn't blown up the reactor back then Shia's beloved Karabala and Najaf would be flat now. So, maybe Iraqi's should be more grateful?

Internet warrior. Israel is the root of all conflicts in the region.

Major powers were aware the program couldn't be militarized, moreover the agreement with France did not allow any military use. Maybe you're telling me France would risk their entire reputation on the international stage by allowing a dictatorship to acquire nuclear weapons which would have triggered a nuclear proliferation. I'm not saying it couldn't have happened but it was as likely as independence for Barzanistan today :). Your beloved fascist state Israel and the Western world don't want developing nations to acquire nuclear technology for two reasons: 1. advancemenets in science and technology in those countries. 2. Nuclear deterrent which would challenge the status quo in Middle East (mainly Israhell) and eventually the larger international community (mainly western powers). Yet here you are parroting old lines like their f*ckboy :)

The reason why a country such as Iraq will FORTUNATELY, not be allowed to develop nuclear technology for the foreseeable future is because its government and its population are a joke. ''Science and technology in developing nations'' such as Iraq, don't make me laugh. You must mean Facebook, propaganda and porn. Iraq's transport MINISTER claimed Sumerians had travelled out of space thousands of years ago in the world's first airports located in present day Iraq. If that is the level of academia to be excepted from MINISTERS, then I don't hold my breath for the rest of Iraq's population.

Also, agreements are never breached, right? And the West is really afraid of damaging its reputation, right?

Again, Iraqis, and especially Arabs, should be thankful that Israel blew up the reactors. Saddam would have either blown up functioning reactors with devastating deaths as a result in either 1991 or 2003, like he drained the marshes and set fire on Basrah's oil fields.

But Kurds, are more developed? Worshipping flags and their leaders.

Why do you always have to make conversations sectarian? When I say Iraq I mean all of Iraq, Iraqi-Kurdistan included. Generally, Kurds are better (subjective) in some areas (for example, secularism, which I find a good thing), and worse in others (idolizing political figures, which I find a bad thing). In this comparison, one thing that stands out, though, is the fact that the Kurdistan Region invested hundreds of millions of dollars in (higher) education during 2006-2013 (new campus University of Sulaimani, American University of Iraq-Sulaimani, University of Kurdistan Hewler). The education students receive(d) at AUIS, for example, is (was) in my opinion on par with the education received in the West.

Anyway, thanks for implicitly agreeing with my previous post :)
