Although Belfast is known for its history of violence during the war between the two Irlandes, its great golden age was during the 19th Century, during the Industrial Revolution. In those times, it was one of the busiest ports in the British Isles, dedicated to the textile trade and the export of tobacco. The other relevant industry that it had was the construction of ships, having the largest shipyard in the world (the "Harland & Wolff"), where the Titanic was designed and assembled. In order to commemorate it, a new museum was built, placed in a modern building who's the icon of the rebirth of the city after the war.

Belfast City Hall

Escaping from the usual red english brick facades, the Belfast City Hall was designed in neo-baroque style. With reconstructed interiors just after the german bombings of the WWII, it's widely used by the people of the city during the summer, especially in the gardens who surround the place. Nowadays, it functions as the indirect starting point of the commercial area of the city. Interestingly, the Belfast City Hall also has a twin palace in the city of Durban, South Africa.

Mixed with older celtic roots, the city of Dublin was founded by the vikings about 1000 years ago. From those times, It's the most influential city in the region, which was also the seat of England until the beginning of the 20th century, when the Irish War of Independence broke out. During the 19th Century, Dublin lost its privileged place and began to compete with Belfast, the current capital of Northern Ireland. Added to the destruction during the independence, the city fell into a decline that lasted several decades and from which it managed to reborn in the second half of the 20th Century, in an economic and urban boom that continues to this day, which interestingly turned to be an example to follow for many countries nowadays. Currently, Dublin is recognized for its brewing industry, especially for the Guinness Storehouse and the famous Temple Bar.

Dublin Castle

Along with the beer industry and the bars, the Dublin Castle is the most interesting thing to see in the city. In the past, it belonged to England, from which it ruled the Irish territory. It was also, by those times, flanked by the Liffey and Poodle rivers. Unlike other castles in Europe, its visual appearance changed radically with the new interventions over the centuries. Its best-known angle is that of the medieval defensive tower, one of the few preserved parts of its original design. When it comes to the rooms and interiors, the most interesting place are the State Apartments, in which lies the fabulous St. Patrick's Hall and the Throne Room. Beyond its tourist use and after the construction of the presidential residence in front of Phoenix Park, the Castle is used only for important events and ceremonies of the Government of Ireland.

Like Edinburgh, Dublin is particularly comfortable, given that it only has one airport who concentrates the national and international flights. Its annual passenger traffic is close to 30 million, distributed between two terminals. Additionally, s new Terminal 2 was opened in 2010, from which transcontinental flights operate, with airlines such as Norwegian, American Airlines, Delta, Emirates and Aer Lingus, the flag carrier airline of Ireland.

A hundred years ago, Dublin was widely crossed by a very extensive tram system. This first generation connected areas who were even far from the center of the city. The entire system gradually disappeared due to the arrival of buses, as in much of the world. Within the 21th Century, however, Dublin began to build the new network "Luas", which currently has two lines and several projects for extension in the future.
