It's about time: LIVERPOOL MOD needed!

I know this has been raised before, but I only need to be away from this forum for a few days to realise how fucking ridiculous the state of affairs is.

The Liverpool forum is the largest and most dynamic city forum on UK SSC. It has mature and intelligent debate, excellent photographs, good humour, and a generally more adult feel than the other city forums.
Granted, there are some times fall outs and stupidity, often it is in good or bad humour (I am guilty of this for sure.)

But the fact is, this forum is generally much more mature and serious than other city forums. There are some very interesting discussions. And yet, we keep seeing, time and time again that threads get invaded by horrible trolls from other forums who contribute nothing to the overall debate taking place over many weeks. They just show up (possibly becuase they are PMing with their silly little adolecent friends) and type a load of shit.

One of these same trolls usually then PMs a mod and asks for the thread to be closed, despite the fact that:

a) they didn't have to read it in the first place
b) half of the problem has been their own over sensitivity and utter stupidity.

What happens? The fucking idiot moderator then closes perfectly good threads becuase some stupid kid, who doesn't even understand the debate or care about it, has asked for this. So evwerybody on here is punsihed just because the likes of Jerv come on here deliberately to post off-topic trash.- and not even in an amusing or friendly way.

Can Gothic, Woodhausen, CAW and WJFox please start acting a bit more sensibly, and can Jan look into instating a Liverpool Mod????

It is about time the Liverpool Forum had its own mod for fucks sake, and we might get some more sensible decisions being made.

I recommend we have Gareth do it and lets just get on with it.

If you're looking for sympathy or want changes on this forum then you'd better show a bit more respect to the people who run it first.

I was surprised that thread was locked. It contained a very interesting discussion (acutally a few), and there is direct evidence in the last few pages that a few of the Manchester kids came over and basically disrupted. Accy's role was despicable, he trolled and city-bashed and then asked for it to be locked. I would urge anyone to have a quick look at it - I've only got two real posts on it, I then left the thread but was enjoying reading what Sebo and John were discussing.

I think the mods do their best, I'm not sure it's just an issue about more or different mods - I think there is a slightly different approach that they might consider.

Instead of locking and deleting a thread like that, why not just remove trolling / city-bashing posts by the likes of jerv/accy etc, so they learn that it's no point interrupting grown-up conversations on the Liverpool sub-forum?

I agree with you there is a difference, it's accidental, but the Liverpool sub-forum just happens to be lucky in having more mature and interesting contributors than some other UK bits of SSC. It's chalk and cheese - if Sebo and me and others are chatting about something, people like jerv and Accy just won't understand it anyway, so it's a pity they feel obliged to come and disrupt in that way.

I agree that if CAW wanted help, and there was to be a helper for the Liverpool sub-forum, Gareth would be excellent.

Really? You want people to respect your power do you?

What a fucking moron you are.

If a mod closes a thread, and disprespects everybody who took the time to make a well thought-out post, then as far as I'm concerned they are a "fucking idiot" and I will say so.

Why don't you "run the place" properly and address the issue at hand, insread of acting like a Nazi, you disgusting imbecile.

I agree with you, Blabs says that to his friends as well I think, but it's not the point. Blabs - why dont you ask them nicely?

But it's not just Blabs, this has happened quite a bit. There is an age / maturity difference between most of the Liverpool Forum and a lot of the daily activists on the Manchester Forum. If those kids could stay away, things would be so much better here. The "lock the thread" response just rewards them, as happened with Accy on the thread I am referring to.
PS Blabs - have you been drinking? It's barely afternoon.

I don't think anyone at all on the Liverpool sub-Forum will agree with you abusing mods like that. You made a good point, but it's totally lost now because of your style. I think you should delete your post and start again - it was a useful point but it's just lost because of the mod-abuse. Why would anyone (gareth included) volunteer to be a mod if they have to put up with abuse like that anyway????
No, I haven't been drinking. I am sobre and deadly serious. WJFox seems to think he is deserving of my respect just becuase he is a moderator. But I don't think the forums are well moderated, and I resent people who don't post on the Liverpool forum just stamping their way in and closing threads.

Why isn't there a Liverpool Mod?

It's not even like I want to do it.- I definitely do not!!!

Well I don't think you'll be top of the people they ask if they do recruit. Honestly, read up - it's not fair to mods to criticise them in those terms. I agree with your main points, but why attack a mod using that kind of language? I bet later today you will wonder why the hell you had such a rush of bloood to the brain.
"WJFox, I lost all repsect for you in the UK UPC. You'll get respect when you act a little less pathetic."

What happened? What the hell is UK UPC?

We all abuse 'netiquette' sometimes but I do get irritated that people come on, deliberatley disrupt a thread and get rewarded when the thread is locked or deleted. Shouldn't the individuals concerned (who build up a track record of this type of activity, rather than suffer the occasional blow up.. we would all be thrown off if that happened!) be censured in some way instead?

Arguments and even nasty spats occur regualrly, but constant, premeditated shenanigans should be punished, not rewarded as happens currently. No, I would not be a moderator... terribly difficult job... respect to those who do it now.
Tony, there was a spat about photo scores - WJFox seems to be a bit competitive, and reacted badly to lower scores than he felt his photos merited from certain people. I think he and Blabs had words about it. I think Blabs is over-reacting though.
i think the people that come on here posting negative comments only do so because they know it will cause a reaction, i think everybody needs to become a little more thick skinned and totally ignore these comments in future.. ie dont reply to them at all. attention seekers will soon move on once they realise they arent actually gaetting any attention.
Tsk, first they ban `fox hunting` and now they want to stamp out `mod Bating` - wot is the world comming to.

If it was `Accy` it would be lots of fun - but we`d have to be nice to `Gareth` (maybe ..... hee hee hee) :) :bash: :runaway:
I think Gareth would do a good job as Mod as well.

A mod has been needed for a long time on the Liverpool board. And while Blabs' rant actually amused me a little he does have a point, just maybe it wasn't made as diplomatically as it should have been!
Hmmm,

Gareth might blabb - but could Blabb .....?

I'm not a city basher. Why has my name been mentioned as a city basher? I just despise Blabbernsmoke. Thats all.
As a mod on a political forum I make sure any flame wars are nipped in the bud. The flamer is given a warning and all is peaceful again. If the Liverpool forums require a mod should it not go to the vote?

:)

:naughty:

Your short and banal post this evening on the Alexandra tower thread was curious. Suddenly, after a long history of off-topic, trolling, city-bashing nonsense and personal abuse on the Liverpool sub-forum, you develop an interest in architecture and Liverpool developmemts? LOL. You have form for city-bashing - remember your claim that you were scared to travel during the day on Merseyrail because of the number of scouse "smack" addicts injecting themselves around you? Not a city-basher? Are you really so stupid as to imagine you are kidding anyone?
I'd nominate Gareth.
Martin S would also be a good candidate, but he isnt on enough.

BTW, when I asked for those threads to be closed, I had the best interests of this subforum at heart.

I think there is something in your post about boundaries. Again not condoning Blabs OTT language this morning (which was obviously not intended seriously, as anyone else who has been on the receiving end of it knows), the person he was abusing has given it out as well. I was called a "tosser" for a relatively (not very low) score and unwelcome comment on one of WJFox's pics, and I wasn't the only one treated rudely. Even CAW, a fellow mod, described Foxy's antics on the photo thread as "pathetic" after someone else was called a tosser.

Now, it's all fun, and the photo competition is a silly thing, and I didn't take his comments seriously (he later gave some of my pics really generous marks, and made helpful comments on them, and for heavens sake its just the bloody internet), but I am just putting a bit of context in here. If a mod goes around calling people a tosser, he probably shouldn't be particularly surprised if he occasionally receives a similar sort of language from others. Well that's my opinion, and I express it as someone who appreciates the mod team here and thinks overall they do a good job. I'm not condoning Blab's OTT language and mod-abuse, I think he shouldn't have done it, it's not on - but it's good for mods to set an example as well.

What arrogance! Best interests indeed. You contributed nothing of any value to that thread, except stupid argument and city bashing. The proposal that Liverpool be made capital city was a whacky one, not serious, but not actually made in Liverpool, it was just being commented on and discussed here. Rather than follow some extremely interesting discussions that were taking place, you seized on particular fairly off-topic points, in a stupid and argumentative fashion - you even claimed, as though it were a fact, that Liverpool had lesser claim than Glasgow! What kind of nonsense was that? Pure disruption, poor city-bashing. Absurd.

If you stayed away and didn't post argumentative low-calibre rubbish, threads would be better. I've never once read one of your posts and thought "Hey, that is interesting", or "Hey, I learned something there". They are immature, ill-informed, often annoying and basically stupid. Your judgements are immature and stupid, your opinions are of no value or interest to me. A mod for this sub-forum would need to remove quite a few of your posts, because they disrupt the flow and degrade the qualtiy of conversation.
