i went to Jackson after going gambling with a friend in Philadelphia, Mississippi.
i was really suprised by the city; although it was very slow downtown, that was a nice thing; vehicle traffic was so light i didn't have to worry about getting hit. there was a decent amount of street life, and a lot of rennovation seemed to be taking place.
a lot of pics taken from my friend's car, and we were in a hurry to get back to Birmingham, so the quality on some's not the best, but who knows when there's going to be another Jackson thread?
i took this pic back in march while going to Texas; Jackson looks better at street level
gorgeous capitol building...my new favorite i think
at the casino, me and my friend joked about Philadelphia not having a Liberty Bell...talk about a coincedence
the rest of the city...
governor's mansion
the little brother of Nashville's Snodgrass Tower
sadly vacant church
i was suprised to see this ruin...the Hotel King Edward, vacant since 1967
more information and better pics of it here.jpg
great news; the state's giving $2 million towards restoration and redeveloping it.jpg
across the street's the recently rennovated AMTRAK station
more rennovation nearby
and on the other side is part of the Farish district. Farish was the African-American district, and a rennovation's under way to turn part of it into a nightlife district; read more.jpg
some stuff just outside the main part of downtown
Victorian
art deco
modern
one of a few 50s-era looking buildings in this area under rennovation
